Vestal unbeaten, earns Ohio’s Iron Man award PDF Print E-mail

Nick Vestal of Wilmington is unbeaten on the wrestling mat through the OAC regular season tournaments.

A member of Team Prodigy out of Springboro, Vestal, 11, will be competing in the 90-pound weight class at the state tournament Friday and Saturday at the Marion County Fairgrounds Coliseum.

Following the state tournament, Vestal will be competing in the 2010 Southern Nationals AAU Wrestling Super Regional in North Carolina.

Bray top finisher for WHS at district tourney PDF Print E-mail

GOSHEN — Isaac Bray’s sixth-place finish was the top performance for Wilmington High School Saturday at the Division II Goshen District tournament at GHS.

Bray’s placement fell two sports short of the necessary finish to qualify for the state tournament.

“Our wrestlers are disappointed,” WHS head coach Jeff Wiederhold said. “We’ll give them a break, let them eat some, then get back to work.

4 Hurricane must battle through consolation bracket to reach state PDF Print E-mail

GOSHEN — Four Wilmington wrestlers are competing in the consolation bracket of the Division II Goshen District wrestling tournament.

The Hurricane wrestlers are Michael Burge, Isaac Bray, Kyle Ross and Chris Cowman. All four wrestlers were 1-1 on the first day of the tournament Friday.

Competition continues at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Ross leads 7 Hurricane to district wrestling tournament PDF Print E-mail

GOSHEN — Kyle Ross earned the only sectional championship Saturday for the Wilmington High School wrestlers at the Division II tournament at Goshen High School.

Ross won the 140-pound weight class with a pin of Dylan Reynolds of Clermont Northeastern in 1:50.

As a team, the Hurricane finished third behind championship New Richmond and runnerup Goshen.

Sluggish Hurricane lead sectional after first day PDF Print E-mail

GOSHEN — Wilmington has a three-point lead over New Richmond after the first day of competition in the Division II Goshen Sectional wrestling tournament.

The Hurricane has 66 points while New Richmond had 63. Wyoming is third at 60.5.

WHS coach Jeff Wiederhold said his squad was flat and didn’t appear to be focused.
