WAYNESVILLE — The Wilmington High School softball team picked up a big 14-4 win over Waynesville on Tuesday.
The Lady Hurricane is now 8-13. “Offensively we started slow. We got fortunate when they had some pitching problems and walked in seven runs early in the game. They kept battling back and had the lead early in the game,” said WHS head coach Willie McClure. “Offensively we woke up in the sixth inning and the bats started working for us and we had nine straight hits. Defensively, we are trying to get better. I see improvement and we still have things we need to learn. It is always a good win on the road. It is nice to get back on track.” Stephanie Byrne pitched for the Lady Hurricane striking out nine. Kelli Hartman had one run, two hits and three RBI for WHS, while Tori Crowe had two runs, two hits and three RBI. The Lady ’Cane returns to action today at Turpin.
