WILMINGTON — The Wilmington High School softball team defeated Walnut Hills 10-8 in Fort Ancient Valley Conference action on Wednesday.

The Lady Hurricane improves to 5-10 on the season and 3-5 in the FAVC.

Taylor Massie picked up the win on the mound with four hits and three strikeouts. Chelsea Jones earned the save.

“I thought Taylor Massie and Chelsea Jones did a good job. We wanted to give some players a break and Massie came in and after her first inning she settled down and did a good job of throwing strikes and letting our defense play behind her,” said WHS head coach Willie McClure. “Because we had people in different positions, our team was kind of off-balanced with that. We didn’t play the best, but it was a learning experience. The girls learned to overcome change and we held onto the win.

“I was happy with the defense. We wanted to work on some things and I saw some good play out of our outfield.”

Jessi Robinson, Stephanie Byrne and Kelli Hartman were all leaders at the plate for the Lady ’Cane. Byrne had a triple and three RBI.

WHS returns to action today at Goshen.
