KINNIKINNICK — The Washington Lady Blue Lion softball team had another tough non-conference game Wednesday when they traveled to this small hamlet to take on the Lady Pioneers of Zane Trace High School. The Pioneers, fresh off clinching the Scioto Valley Conference title with a 14-0 record, posted a 20-2 win over Washington. The Lady Lions fall to 9-13 on the year with the loss.
Washington’s Taylor Dugan suffered the loss on the mound. Offensively, however, Dugan blasted her sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot to account for Washington’s runs. Kelsey Daniels preceeded Dugan to the plate and hit a single. Morgan Wissinger had a single later in the inning, but would not score. All of that occured in the top of the first for Washington. Deven Riley had Washington’s fourth and final hit, that coming in the top of the fifth. Zane Trace sent 20 batters to the plate in scoring 16 runs in the bottom of the second. It was a defensive let down for Washington as the Lady Lions committed a season-high 11 errors in the game. In contrast, the Pioneers played an error-free game. Washington is back in action at home Friday with a rescheduled game against Clark Southeastern (South Charleston). Washington will take part in a round robin match with Waverly and Unioto Saturday at Unioto High School. Zane Trace is now 19-2 overall.
