GREEN TOWNSHIP — The Wilmington High School boys golf team picked up a Fort Ancient Valley Conference win after defeating Walnut Hills at Snow Hill Country Club on Tuesday.
The Hurricane shot a 158 to Walnut Hills’ 179. Wilmington was led by Jordan Berlin and Kyle Miller with 38s, followed by Craig Osterbrock and Brad Fuller with 39s. Playing but not scoring were Kirby Seeger with a 40 and Phil Gilmore with a 42. “Again, as against Kings last week, it just wasn’t the kind of performance we were satisfied with. We had a couple of guys not feeling well, but still overcame the illness best they could. In addition, some double and triple bogies on a couple of cards would have made a big difference in our team score,” said WHS head coach Tim Martin. “Jordan again eagled a par 5 to tie freshman, Kyle Miller for match medalist honors. Kyle bounced back from a double on his second hole to finish strong. Craig and Brad played consistently well, but their score suffered after running into alittle misfortune on a hole or two. “This team realizes they’ll need to play better as we get into the extremely competitive part of our schedule. Saturday we will play in the Hadley Classic and Monday we travel to the talent loaded LaSalle Invitational at Clovernook Country Club. This leads up to the regular season FAVC showdown between us and undefeated Turpin next Tuesday at their place. Knowing these guys, they’ll be more than ready to take on the Turpin gang, despite the match being played on Turpin’s home course.” Add as favourites (18) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 655
