CINCINNATI — Outscored 27-4 in the second half, Wilmington dropped a 51-18 decision Monday to Walnut Hills in Fort Ancient Valley Conference girls basketball action. The Lady Hurricane falls to 9-9 overall and 2-6 in the FAVC Cardinal Division. Walnut Hills is 16-2 overall and 8-0 in the Cardinal. The Lady Eagles earned at least a share of the league crown when Little Miami defeated Kings on Monday. “Our effort was good, our kids played hard,” WHS coach Butch Hooper said. “I thought we had a pretty good gameplan going in, we just didn’t have enough bodies. You don’t like to lose but this is nothing to be ashamed of. It’s something you learn from and then move on.”
Marci Sodini led the Lady Hurricane with eight points. Amina Affini had four, Gabby Brown two, Jessica Rice two and Kayla Rice two. “They’re just, at every position, stronger and quicker,” Hooper said. “It was their senior night and they were flying.” Wilmington trailed 11-10 after one and 24-14 at halftime. In the second half, though, Wilmington managed just two free throws by Kayla Rice and a field goal by Jessica Rice. Tayler Stanton (headed to Kent State) had 14 points for Walnut Hills while teammate Phylesha Bullard (headed to Syracuse) chipped in with 13 points.
