Monday, 09 February 2009

Wilmington ran into a buzzsaw Monday night as Loveland posted a 67-41 win over the Lady Hurricane in a non-league game at the middle school gym.

Wilmington is now 11-6 on the year. Loveland is 10-8. The Lady Tigers have won three of their last four games, including a 56-43 victory over Walnut Hills. Loveland started the season 4-1 but then went 3-6 before this recent run of success.

Wilmington lost to Walnut Hills, 58-38, Saturday in a Fort Ancient Valley Conference Cardinal Division game.

Against Loveland, Chelsea Earley put the Lady Hurricane up 3-2 in the early moments of the game but the Lady Tigers reeled off 14 unanswered points to take a 16-3 lead. Lindsey Crowe broke the string with 34 seconds left in the first quarter but the damage was done.

“Loveland runs the floor well, they shoot the ball well and they play pretty good defense,” WHS head coach Butch Hooper said.

Wilmington was able to pull within eight, 18-10, when Crowe made a three-pointer in the first eight seconds of the second quarter but Loveland slowly pulled away.

Crowe led the Lady Hurricane with 12 points. Earley scored seven.

Alex Pohl led Loveland with 16 points. Ellie Iaciofano had 13.

On Saturday against Walnut Hills, the Lady Eagles had too much inside for Wilmington.

“They have three pretty nice post players,” Hooper said.

Taylor Ware led Walnut Hills with 22 points. Kiasia Chambers added 10.

Jessica Rice was the top scorer for Wilmington with nine points. Marci Sodini added eight and Earley scored seven.
