MOWRYSTOWN — Scoring multiple runs in the first three innings, the Whiteoak Wildcats kept the lead for the entire game, defeating Southern Hills League foe West Union 5-1 on Tuesday.

The Wildcats began the bottom of the first scoring two runs, with Marshall Banks knocking in Ben Barnett and Zach Bradds hitting a sacrifice fly to score Kurt Yochum from third, giving the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage.
After Bradds kept the Dragon scoreless in the top part of the second, Banks came up big again for the Wildcats, crushing a two-run double, scoring Yochum and Chase Evanshine. Banks finished with three RBIs.
The Dragons broke the shutout in the top of the third, when Brennan Grooms scored the lone run for West Union.

Whiteoak equaled the run scored by the Dragons, with Bradds  hitting a double in the bottom part of the third. Bradds was knocked by Chris Fuhrman.
"I liked the way we hit with no outs, with runners on base and the way we hit with two outs," Whiteoak coach Chris Veidt said. "Ben Harmon  did well at the plate, with the way he moved runners over. Marshall (Banks) hit the ball very well tonight."
With a four run advantage, Steven Robinson controlled the outfield for the Wildcats in the sixth inning, catching all three outs.
Earning the victory for the Wildcats was Bradds. The senior pitched a complete seven innings, finishing with nine strikeouts, while allowing four hits, one run (earned) and five walks. Bradds also hit one batter.
"Zach (Bradds) pitched a good game for us," Veidt said. "He spotted his pitches well, his fastball was good and his curveball was working as well. As a coach, anytime you can get two quality starts from a senior, it's huge."
The win gives Whiteoak an overall record of 4-1, 2-0 in the SHL.
Whiteoak will play a makeup game today, as the Wildcats will travel to Eastern Brown at 5 p.m. in SHL action.
