It was a tough night for the West Union Lady Dragons as they faced off against the Eastern Lady Warriors on Thursday, April 17. After three pop-flies for each team in the first, Eastern returned for two runs in their at bat in the second. Eastern kept the Dragons from scoring in the second with three quick plays to first.

The Lady Warriors kept with their scoring streak in the third with three runs scored while West Union continued to have problems putting runs on the board. The forth inning brought Eastern another two runs while the Lady Dragons came out of their slump to also score two.

Both teams were scoreless in the fifth, however, the inning was still eventful. After delivering two outs to Eastern, West Union caught a fly ball to end the Warriors’ at-bat. However, a runner interference was called against West Union and Eastern was given a do-over with their last at-bat. West Union’s pitcher, Thomnessa Fields, was still able to deliver a strikeout to end the Warriors’ at-bat.

“There wasn’t one call that went our way tonight,” said West Union Coach Troy Fields.

Eastern returned in the sixth inning to score another two runs while West Union continued to struggle to break the Warriors’ solid defense. West Unions’ defense kept Eastern from scoring in the seventh and were able to put one run on the board and load the bases in the bottom of the inning. However, the Dragons were unable to come back and rally a score.

“The score doesn’t really show how hard we played tonight,” said Fields. “we’re hitting fine but it just doesn’t come when we really need it.”
