The West Union Lady Dragons Softball team has gained three wins in their last five league games against Peebles, North Adams, Ripley, Lynchburg-Clay, and Eastern Brown. The Lady Dragons are now 6-7 in the Southern Hills League standings. Dragons get fired up In a surprising upset, the Lady Dragons were able to clench a victory over the Peebles Lady Indians on April 24, with a final score of 10-9. West Union’s Thomnessa Fields placed six strikeouts on the Lady Indians’ offensive while Cierra Taylor and Kristi Beasley led West Union’s offense. Taylor went 3-4 with four steals and two RBIs while Beasley went 2-4 and gained 2 steals and an RBI.
“We played team ball against a good team,” said West Union coach Troy Fields. “We came out on top today and I’m proud of the effort that the girls put into this win.” Dragons fall to Devils The Lady Dragons fell to the North Adams Lady Devils in their match-up on April 25 with a score of 4-2, despite West Union pitcher Thomnessa Fields delivering nine strikeouts to the North Adams offensive. Elizabeth Taylor went 2-4 with 4 steals and Kristi Beasley went 3-4 with an RBI. “We committed to several errors today,” said Coach Fields. “I still give North Adams credit; they came ready to play.” Dragons beat Blue Jays with defense West Union overcame their loss to North Adams with a 3-1 win over the Ripley Lady Jays in their game on April 29. West Union’s Alexandra Bowles pitched 3 strikeouts to aid the Lady Dragons along to their victory. West Union dominated offensively, with Cierra Taylor going 3-3 with an RBI and Elizabeth Taylor scoring two runs. “This was a great game for us defensively,” said Coach Fields. “We stepped up and made the plays. Our hitting was definitely on today.” Lady Dragons burn Mustangs West Union’s second win came in their match-up against the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs on May 1 with a final score of 11-2. Once again, West Union’s Thomnessa Fields led the team defensively by delivering an impressive nine strikeouts. Leading the offensive attack against Lynchburg were Cierra Taylor, who went 5-5 with six steals; Kristi Beasley, who went 3-4 with 4 steals and 2 RBIs; and Ashley Copley, who went 1-2 and gained two RBIs. “This was a big win for our program,” said Coach Fields. “We were just clicking on all cylinders in this game.” Warriors scrape a close win With a final score of 2-1, the Lady Dragons encountered a close loss to the undefeated Eastern Brown Lady Warriors on Friday May 2. Brooklyn Hall scored West Union’s only run after stealing second and third bases. Ashley Copley was credited with the RBI for Hall’s run. The game ended in controversy after what looked to be West Union’s tying run was swiped from the board by the appeal of the umpires. “We played an undefeated team on their home-field, and matched them play for play,” said Coach Fields. ” All in all, it was a great game and our kids played their hearts out.” The West Union Lady Dragons next home game will be against Portsmouth East at 5 p.m. They will also be competing in the State Tournament against the North Adams Lady Devils on May 12 at 5 p.m. Add as favourites (16) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 213
