BOWLING GREEN – Two Green Medows Conference teams will hook-up one more time this season – in the BGSU Division IV Regional Semi-Finals.
The Wayne Trace Raiders battle GMC rival and league champion Ayersville (21-2) at 8:15 p.m. tonight at BGSU, following the 6:30 p.m. opener between Plymouth and Van Buren. If the second match-up between these two fine schools is comparable to the first, then area fans are in for a treat. Ayersville will start Demetrius Trapps (5.6 ppg) at point guard, with Logan Wolfrum (14.4 ppg) and Preston Zachrich (6.0 ppg) on the perimeter, while Mathew Martin (10.7 ppg) and Joe Ewers (2.0 ppg) handle the inside. Depth comes from Anthony King (7.0 ppg), Travis Flint (1.6 ppg) and Eric Fishpaw (2.1 ppg). The Raiders have plenty of weapons also, as the locals will counter with Aaron Hockenberry (18.2 ppg), Riley Linder (11.7 ppg), Dane Treece (9.4 ppg), Ryan Davis (3.4 ppg) and Nate Jewell (4.0 ppg) in the starting lineup, with 6-8 senior Alex LaBounty (8.6 ppg) and Derrick Baksa (2.2 ppg) the main subs. Ayersville comes in after defeating Stryker and Pettisville in the districts, while Wayne Trace enters regional play after defeating Ottoville for the sectional title, and then Antwerp and Kalida for the district title. In tonight's opener, Plymouth and Van Buren tangle. Plymouth (20-3) advanced to regionals with an easy 63-43 win over Sandusky St. Marys, while Van Buren upended Toledo Christian 46-39 in overtime.
