Wayne Trace falls in baseball opener, 8-2 PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 01 April 2008
CONTINENTAL -- The Wayne Trace Raiders played their home-opener at Continental Monday night and fell by an 8-2 count in varsity baseball action. The field at Wayne Trace was deemed unplayable due to wet conditions, so the contest was moved to Continental High School.

Wayne Trace led 1-0 after two innings before Continental's offense shifted gears. The Pirates rallied for three runs in the third inning to take the lead, and then sealed the deal with a four-run fifth inning to collect the "W". Continental added a solo insurance run in the sixth stanza.

The Pirates collected six hits, while committing only one fielding error. On the other hand, the Raiders' offense was limited to only three hits on the night, and the Wayne Trace defense did not bring their "A" game to the park, committing five miscues in the field.

Continental's Louiselle collected the win, going five innings and surrendering only two runs (1 earned) on one hit, while walking four and recording eight strikeouts. Riley Linder absorbed the setback for Wayne Trace, giving up three runs (0 earned) on three hits, while recording seven strikeouts and three walks in four innings of work.

Leading hitters for Wayne Trace were: Ryan Davis (1 for 3, triple, rbi), Joe Morehead (1 for 3), and Andrew Horner (1 for 2, rbi).

Leading Continental at the plate were: Homier (1 for 5), Shafer (2 for 2, 2 doubles, run); and Baden (1 for 4, double).
