Six local athletes qualify to National Junior Olympic track meet PDF Print E-mail

This past weekend, July 5 and 6, 14 athletes from the Excel Track club competed at the USATF Region 5 Track and Field meet that took place in Washington Court House.

Six of those athletes have qualified to move on the National Competition that will be held in Omaha, Nebraska on July 22-27.

Dasia Cole placed first the bantam age group high jump competition with a jump of 1.07 meters.

Tori Merritt won the midget girls age group high jump competition with a jump of 1.17 meters and also placed fourth in the midget girl’s long jump.

Also, winning the bantam girls long jump competition with a jump of 3.81 meters was Megan Mullins.

Taylor Shears placed third in the youth girl’s pole vault with a vault of 1.98 meters.

In the youth girl’s shot put competition, Jessica Guyett placed second with a throw of 11.33 meters and placed fourth in the youth girl’s discus.

Dallas DeBruin placed second in the midget boy’s high jump competition with a jump of 1.12 meters.

Also competing this past weekend here in Washington Court House from the Excel Track Club were: Courtney Crigger, fourth in bantam girls high jump, .87 m.; Taylor Alsop, fifth in young women’s long jump, 4.44m.; Brianna Mitchell, fourth in youth girl’s pole vault, 1.83m.; Evan Upthegrove, fourth in sub-bantam boy’s 100 meter dash, 17.2 seconds; Laralyn LeBeau, fifth in sub-bantam girl’s 100 meter dash, 19.2; Rob King, second in intermediate boy’s steeplechase, 8:13.69, fifth in the 3000m, 11:11.5, and sixth in the 1500m, 5:01.36; Canaan Williamson, sixth in the midget boy’s long jump, 3.66 meters and Carly Laswell, sixth in intermediate girl’s long jump, 4.40 meters.

The Excel Track Club would like to thank all the volunteers from the community that helped out at the Region 5 meet here in Washington Court House.
