BYESVILLE — The Division II Regional track meet concluded on Saturday, May 31 with the competition being held at Meadowbrook High School several miles south of Cambridge, Ohio. Through the events of the opening day on Thursday, Washington’s Brittany Thomas had won the high jump, clearing 5’ 2” to advance to the State tournament. Skylar Schofner, a sophomore, placed fourth on Thursday in the discus throw, sending him to State with a best throw of 155’ 1”.
  Two other Fayette County athletes, one from each of the two local high schools, placed in the top four in their respective events on Saturday to move on to State competition later this week. From Washington Senior High, junior Nicole Fore placed third in the discus throw at 114’ 8” to advance. From Miami Trace High School, sophomore Sammantha Stroker placed fourth in the 3200-meter run in 12:00.32. That result qualifies her to the State. Thomas will compete in the State high jump in Division II on Friday morning at 10 a.m. Fore will compete in the State discus throw in Division II on Friday morning at 10 a.m. Schofner will compete in the State discus throw in Division II on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Stroker will compete in the State 3200-meter run in Division II on Saturday afternoon at 2:40 p.m. In other results from Saturday’s Regional in Byesville, Miami Trace’s Sommer Eddlemon placed ninth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:30.27. Stroker placed 10th in the 1600-meter run in 5:37.92. Alex Wilson of Washington, looking to defend his Regional championship of 2007, placed sixth in the high jump at 6’ 0”. Catie Shears of Washington placed 15th in the long jump at 14’ 7 3/4”. Schofner was sixth in the shot put at 50’ 9”. Erin Ross, hoping to return to State in the pole vault for the second year in a row, placed 11th Saturday at 8’ 6”. One local relay team made it to Saturday’s Regional finals, that being Washington’s 4 x 100-meter relay team. That squad, comprised of Alyssa Daugherty, Thomas, Taylor Alsop and Cortney Merritt, placed fifth in the finals in a time of 51.14. Other competitors and relay teams who competed on Thursday: Miami Trace’s 4 x 800-meter relay team of Sonora Humphreys, Julie McKay, Stroker and Eddlemon placed ninth in 10:07.84. Daugherty was ninth in the 100-meter hurdle semifinals in 16.83; Wilson was 10th in the semifinals of the 110-meter hurdles in 16.17; Washington’s 4 x 200-meter relay team of Daugherty, Alsop, Ross and Merritt was 11th in 1:50.87; Miami Trace’s 4 x 200-meter relay team of Ashley Lawson, Sarah Andrews, Tawny Copas and Sydney Wilson placed 12th in 1:51.09; in the 200-meter dash, Merritt was 12th in 27.93; Lawson was 13th in 27.95 and Wilson was 14th in 28.24; Miami Trace’s Ally Byrne was 10th in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.31; the Miami Trace 4 x 400-meter relay team of Copas, Wilson, Andrews and Eddlemon was 11th in 4:20.68; Shears was 11th in the high jump at 4’ 10” and Ben Parks of Washington was 12th in the long jump at 18’ 10”. Gallia Academy won the Regional girls title with 70 points, 12.5 points better than second place Indian Valley. Logan Elm was tied for fifth place with 25 points; the Lady Blue Lions tied for 11th place with 20 points and Miami Trace was tied with Minford for 37th place with five points. On the boy’s side, Vincent Warren won the Regional with 72 points. River View was second with 59.75 points. Unioto was tied for fifth place with 30 points; Chillicothe was tied for eighth place with 24 points; Circleville was tied for 11th place with 20 points; Hillsboro was tied for 19th place with 13 points and the Blue Lions were 25th with 11 points.
