ADAMS TOWNSHIP — The state-ranked Clinton-Massie Falcons (#8 Division IV) improved to 8-0 Friday at Frank Ireland Field, defeating Washington C.H., 55-21. The Falcons clinch at least a share of the SCOL championship as they improve to 5-0 with a home game against 3-1 Madison Plains next week. The Blue Lions fall to 1-7 on the season, 1-3 in the SCOL. On the night, the Falcons generated 460 in total offense on 60 plays; 362 in rushing and 98 yards in the air. The Blue Lions had 269 yards rushing and were limited to only 12 yards in passing.
Massie had its offense clicking in the first half, putting 35 points on the board, which was pleasing to C-M head coach Dan McSurley. “We really had some great performances out there tonight, especially on the offensive side of the ball,” said McSurley, indicating the 35 points were the most scored by his squad in the first half of any game this season. Logan McCormick was the offensive star for the Falcons, scoring a pair of touchdowns and passing for two others. McCormick was three for three on his pass attempts, totalling 73 yards. He connected with Corby Running on a 39-yard touchdown pass on the opening drive, and connected with Justin Evans on a 37-yard aerial on the final play of the half. McCormick, who rushed for 83 yards on four carries, made a 53-yard run to pay dirt in the final minute of the first quarter, helping the Falcons take a 21-7 lead. He later added a 25-yard TD run in the third quarter with 6:31 remaining. The Blue Lions tied the game at seven-all with 5:33 left to play in the first quarter, capping a seven-play, 52-yard drive as Riley Shaw ran the ball in from five yards, and kicker Tyler Kimmet booted the PAT through the uprights. However, on the ensuing kickoff, Massie regained the lead as C. J. Kline returned the ball 85-yards for a touchdown, and Geremie Dart’s PAT put the Falcons back on top. Dart connected on seven of his eight PAT conversions on the night. Also scoring touchdowns for the Falcons were Justin Evans on a pair of receptions, one for 37-yards and another for 22 yards. Nathan Stouffer had a three yard TD run in the second quarter and Jake McSurley rounded out the Falcons’ scoring with a 13-yard run in the final minute of regulation. Coach McSurley was especially pleased with the efforts of both signal-callers, including back-up Jake Richardson, who connected with Evans on the third quarter touchdown pass. McCormick ran the option effectively said the coach. “I felt that Logan ran the option really well tonight, and after we got the big lead we were able to get some reps for Jake, and he also did a good job,” said McSurley. Three Falcon ball carriers accounted for over 65 yards each rushing for the contest, led by Jordan Scanlon with 94 yards on 16 carries, McCormick had 79 yards on the ground, and Coty Burton added 67 yards on seven carries. The Blue Lions scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns, as Gabe Mitchell took it in from seven-yards out with 11:31 remaining in the fourth quarter, and Julian Wyatt had a 25-yard TD run with 5:31 to play. Kimmet tacked on both of the PAT’s to round out the scoring for Washington Court House. Mitchell was the top Blue Lion ball carrier with 97 yards rushing on nine carries, while Shaw added 65-yards on nine carries. Next up for the Falcons will be the Madison Plains Golden Eagles, in the 2008 home finale for Clinton-Massie. Washington is back out on the road next week at London.
