VAN WERT -- VW's Pleasant Shores hosted the U.S. Junior and U.S. 17 to 20 Water Ski team trials this past weekend. The three-event (slalom, trick and jump) competitions helped the American Water Ski Association's International Activities Committee select its representatives for the upcoming Pan American Water Ski Championships as well as the Junior Water Ski World Championships.
Van Wert's own Keri McClure qualified for the 17 to 20 team and will compete this July 28 to August 3 in Medellin, Colombia in the Pan American Championships. McClure's sister, Kayla, was named an alternate for Team USA. Others making the team included Storm Selsor (Fremont, Calif.), Alex Lauretano (Morris, Conn.) and Olivia McDonald (Fayetteville, N.C.). Haley Runion of McDonald, Tenn. was named an alternate to the team.
In the U.S. Junior competition, Zack Worden (Deltona, Fla.), Caroline Hensley (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Lauren Morgan (Odessa, Fla.) and John Lex Kenerly (Jesup, Ga.) were named to the national team. Alternates included Leif Abel (Hickory, N.C.), Ryan Hinkle (Rio Linda, Calif.), Haywood McDonald (Fayetteville, N.C.), Adam Pickos (Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.) and Nikki Waitt (Clermont, Fla.).
The U.S. Junior team will compete in Medellin, Colombia the same week as the 17 to 20 team and will also take part in the world championships on January 5-11, 2009 in Lima, Peru.
The national team trials are not the final tournaments to be held this summer at Pleasant Shores, as a record capable tournament will be held July 19-20 and the Ohio State Water Ski Championships will take place on July 25-27. Add as favourites (25) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 541
