VW MARLINS UPDATE:

VAN WERT – The Van Wert Marlins traveled to Kenton for the Northwest Ohio Aquatic League Swim Championships.  The Marlins placed seventh in total points, but in competition for the achievement award, took second in terms of the average points scored per swimmer.  Sam Easley led the Marlins with 4 individual event wins and a 4^th place.  His older sister Heather broke the Marlins 50 meter backstroke record with a 33.89 time and first place in that event.  Heather joined teammates Danielle Miller, Kayla Miller and Hannah Yackey in smashing two Marlins' relay event records.  The 15-18 girls took second place in both the 200 meter medley relay with a time of 2:17.92 and the 200 meter free relay with a time of 2:02.80.   Also winning gold medals (first place) for the Marlins were the 11-12 boys 200 meter medley relay team of Brandon Marecic, Eric Easley, Sean Miller and Joshua Overholt.   The same set of boys also took second place in the 200 meter free relay.  Eric Easley also took first place in the 50 meter breast stroke, and older brother Brian took first in the 100 meter freestyle.  Addison Henkaline won medals in the 25 meter freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke.  In addition to their individual first place finishes, Heather, Brian and Eric Easley won medals in all their other individual events.  Also winning multiple medals were Sean Miller, Evan Stant, and Hannah Yackey.  Winning one medal were Paige Lucas, Trey Stemen, Danielle Miller, David Mills and Will Burchfield.   The final medals were won by the 15-18 boys free relay team with Nick Kallas, David Mills, Will Burchfield, and Brian Easley with a third place finish.The meet concluded with the Memorial 450 meter free relay, which is composed of a team of 10 swimmers, one from each age/sex group.  The Marlins had their best-ever finish in this event’s history with a solid third place.All distances in meters:Girls 8 and Under:25 Free:  5^th (20.58 -
