Shawnee 8, Van Wert 1

VAN WERT – The Lady Cougars were roughed up at Jubilee Park by the Indians from Lima Shawnee by a score of 8-1. Van Wert had five miscues in the game that allow six unearned runs and help Shawnee to easy victory. The Indians scored four runs in the third inning on two hits, two errors and a hit batter. The visitors added another run in the fourth with only one hit and two more Van Wert errors. Van Wert's lone run came in the fifth when pitcher Morgan Williams led off with a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and then went to third on a ground out. She reached the plate on an RBI single off the bat of Lauren Mosier. That was the Cougars only threat of the game. Shawnee's two earned runs came in the sixth starting with a lead off double by the visiting pitcher, Lingenfelter. After a strikeout, the number nine hitter was walked and followed by a single to plate the sixth run. Two batters later and another single, the score was 7-1 for the guest. Williams was on the mound and suffered the loss. She gave up 8 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits and 1 walk. Williams struck out 5 Shawnee batters.
Offensively for the Cougars, Ashley Harshman, Brittany Bolenbaugh and Mosier all had singles. The Cougars will go on the road this Thursday to take on Minster.
