Wapak’s big guns led the Lady Redskins to a hard-fought, 46-39 win over Van Wert Thursday night in girl’s basketball WBL action. Division I player Heidi Schlegel, bound for Youngstown State, tallied 16 points, while teammate, 6-3 post player Morgan Quellhorst scored 11 as the visitors escaped the ‘Den without an upset loss. Wapakoneta is now 10-6 overall and 5-2 in the WBL. Van Wert is 5-11 and 2-4. The Lady Cougars played the WBL-frontrunners toe-to-toe for much of the game but in the end, did not have enough fire power to pull the upset. Wapak lumped to first half leads of 13-7 and 28-19. The Lady Cougars stormed back in half number two and out-pointed Wapak 20-18 in the second half b8t it was not enough. Nikki Morrow and Alex Morrow led Van Wert scoring with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Morrow, Gamble), Wapakoneta 1 (Brown). ----- The Crestview Lady Knights are getting a reputation throughout the area – they do not rebuild, they reload – yes, the names have changed since last season but here is the 2010 version of the Lady Knights with a chance to capture an NWC co-championship. Crestview easily handled Bluffton Thursday, 57-31 and now improve to 13-3 overall and 6-1 in the league. With Columbus Grove 6-1 also, the Lady Knights are the only team that is left to knock-off first place Delphos Jefferson. Jessica Burger led all scorers on the night with 18 points. Crestview also had three other players in double figures, as well, in Gamble (12), Hicks (12), and Thompson (11). Harrod led Bluffton with 12 points. That’s what took place Thursday night as the Lady lancers of Lincolnview recorded a paltry 25 percent from the floor en rout to a lopsided 50-31 setback to Paulding in girl’s basketball NWC action. Paulding led only 7-6 at the first stop, but then out-pointed the Lady Lancers 31-14 in the middle two quarters to seal the deal. Jessica Farr and Shelby Erford led Paulding in scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively. She was joined in double digits by Shelby Erford with 11. Paulding improves to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in the Northwest Conference. Lincolnview falls to 2-15 and 1-6. Lincolnview won the junior varsity contest, 38-17.
