VAN WERT 3, KENTON 0: Van Wert swept Kenton 3-0 (25-8; 25-9; 25-10) Thursday evening at "The Cougars' Den." The Lady Cougars (11-9, 7-2 WBL) end the 2008 campaign as WBL Co-Runners-Up. Van Wert will host a tri-match with Lincolnview and Antwerp on Saturday before opening up postseason play on Tuesday. The Lady Cougars will battle Elida in the sectional tournament Tuesday evening at Van Wert.
PARKWAY 3, NEW KNOXVILLE 0: The Parkway volleyball team defeated New Knoxville 3-0 Thursday evening in New Knoxville to improve to 17-5 and 6-3 in the Midwest Athletic Conference. The three game scores were 25-12, 25-23 and 25-18. Katlyn Smith led the offense for the Lady Panthers with 17 assists and four aces. Marian Bevington collected 10 kills while Kelsey Bates added seven. Ashley Stose and Hannah Beougher each recorded 15 digs for the Lady Panthers.
WAYNE TRACE 3, HOLGATE 0: Wayne Trace defeated Holgate 25-17, 25-13, 25-19 Thursday night in v-ball action. Wayne Trace closes the regular season 15-7 overall, 5-2 in the Green Meadows Conference with the win. WT Stat Leaders: Janelle Davis - 22-24 serving, two aces, 72-76 setting, 37 assists; Kelly Janka - 12-12 serving, two aces, 13-15 hitting, six kills; Natalie Snyder - 29-33 hitting, 25 kills, six blocks; Sara Priest - 21-23 hitting, 12 kills, 15-15 passing, five digs; Maria Schaefer - 7-7 passing, ten digs; Junior Varsity - Wayne Trace over Holgate 25-19, 18-25, 25-19; Wayne Trace finishes 11-8 overall, 2-5 in the GMC.
KALIDA 3, DELPHOS JEFFERSON 2: Kalida hosted Delphos Jefferson on parent's night in Kalida and came away with a 3-2 victory. Scores were 25-21, 26-24, 24-26, 12-25, and 15-5. Kalida improves to 19-2 on the season. Leading the Ladycats were Jess Knueve's 15 kills. Trisha Horstman had 10 kills. Ashley Remlinger had 9 kills and 6 aces. Julia Fuerst had 6 kills and 5 blocks. Amy Hamburg had 4 kills and 2 aces. Amy VonderEmbse had 5 kills and 20 assists. Emily Turnwald also dished out 19 assists. Kalida travels to Crestview on Saturday for its season finale.
O-G 3, SHAWNEE 1: Ottawa-Glandorf won the first two games of a Western Buckeye League volleyball match with Shawnee, and after losing the third, narrowly beat the Indians. The Titans won 25-23, 25-15, 19-25, 25-21. The Titans improved to 7-2 in the league and 14-7 overall. Kori Bruns had 19 kills, and Danielle Hershberger had six aces, two blocks and seven kills for O-G. Jenna Ellerbrock had 22 assists. Paige Heistan had 16 kills and Rachel Ciminillo had 31 digs for Shawnee. Sarah Logsdon had 22 assists.
MILLER CITY 3, LIBERTY-BENTON 1: Dana Otto had 16 kills, 15 digs and three blocks to lead Miller City to its eighth win. Marci Wenzinger added 33 assists and two aces.
(Boys Soccer):
TEMPLE CHRISTIAN 3, OTTOVILLE 1: Joshua Link had a pair of goals to lead Temple Christian. Zach White added a goal and two assists for the Pioneers (12-1-2).
KENTON 3, VAN WERT 0: The Cougars end the regular season at 2-12-2. No stats were submitted from the contest played Thursday night at Kenton.
O-G 2, SHAWNEE 0: The Titans won the WBL Title for the first time since 1999 with a 2-0 win over the Indians Thursday night at Shawnee.
(Girls Soccer):
CRESTVIEW 0, KENTON 0: The Crestview Lady Knights and the Kenton Lady Wildcats played to a 0-0 draw Thursday evening in girl's varsity soccer action at Crestview. The tie leaves the Lady Knights at a respectable 5-5-5 on the season. The girls play again on Saturday when they take on Kalida.
MILLER CITY 3, LIMA SENIOR 0: The Miller City girl's soccer team defeated Lima Senior 3-0 on Wednesday at Lima. Carrie Griggs, Ashley Kohls and Lauren Niese all scored for Miller City (8-2-5). Stats: Miller City - Goals: Carrie Griggs, Ashley Kohls, Lauren Niese; Assists: Leah Lammers, Lauren Hermiller; Saves: Courtney Ellerbrock 3.
MILLER CITY 2, BLUFFTON O: Leah Lammers scored both goals for Miller City Thursday night. Courtney Ellerbrock stopped four shots for the Wildcats. Miller City improved to 9-2-5, and Bluffton fell to 3-12-1.
