ACME baseball

VAN WERT - The Parkway Panthers edged the VW Cougars by a 7-4 count in ACME baseball action Monday night. Parkway improved to 9-12 on the summer diamond season, while the Cougars fell to 7-9 in all games with the setback.

Game highlights:

Parkway:

- Levon Archer cracked a two-RBI double to seal the deal for the Panthers.

- Chad Shellabarger went three innings, allowing one run on one hit with a walk and two strikeouts. 

- Drew Luginbill pitched two inning in relief and allowed one run on one hit with a strikeout and a hit batter.

- Taylor Bates pitched two innings in relief and allowed two runs on two hits.

Van Wert:

- Jason Osenbaugh took the mound and pitched four innings, allowing three runs on one hit with two strikeouts, seven walks and a hit batter.

- Brady Dunlap threw two innings for Van Wert, allowing two runs on three hits with a walk, a strikeout and a hit batter. Thatcher pitched the seventh, giving up two runs on one hit with three walks.

*Van Wert next plays tonight in ACME tournament action. The Cougars face Delphos St. John's at 5 p.m. at VW's Smiley Park.

*Parkway also starts tourney action tonight, taking on Marion Local at St. Henry.

ACME softball

WAPAKONETA - The ACME softball season ended this past weekend with the annual Tri-County tournament, which was held in Wapak. The Lady redskins won the tourney with a 5-1 victory over the Lady Knights of Crestview. Shelby Walters delivered the only run for the Lady Knights with a solo homerun. Crestview had defeated New Bremen in its first round contest, and then downed county rival, Van Wert, 3-0 in the tournament's semifinal to advance to the title game.

Don Bachman Tournament
VAN WERT - The Don Bachman Memorial Tournament is scheduled July 18-20. There will be eight teams in the 9-10 age division and eight in the 11-12 age division. Cost is $175 per team with a guarantee of three games. Registration deadline is June 27. Trophies will be given for the top three teams. Former St. Louis Cardinals right-hander and All-American shortstop Gene Stechschulte is available for pitching and hitting lessons. Call 419-957-8096 to schedule a lesson.
   

Stechschulte-Weber camp
Former St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Gene Stechschulte and former Marietta coach Tom Weber are holding the Pinnacle Performance baseball camp July 7-10. The camp will be at Weber Field, between Ottawa and Findlay on State Route 224. The camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day. The cost is $95 for players 8-14. Big Green Athletic Boosters Golf Outing
OTTOVILLE - The Big Green Athletic Boosters will
have its seventh annual golf outing at 1 p.m. Aug. 16 at
Country Acres Golf Club. It will be a four-person scramble format. Entry deadline is Aug. 1.

   

Left-handed state tournament
DELPHOS - The 54th annual left-handed golfers state tournament will be held July 19-20 at the Delphos Country Club. OHIO CITY - The 21st annual Ohio City Warrior 4-miler will be held July 19 at Fireman's Park in Ohio City. Registration begins at 6 p.m. and the race begins at 7 p.m. Pre-registration cost is $10 and must be received by July 17. Race day registration is $15. PAULDING - Paulding All-Star Tournaments will be July 18-20 for 12-under girls fastpitch. Registration for boys baseball is July 22-26 for 10-andunder and 12-and-under. The entry fee is $175. First prize includes 12 new bikes and a Marcos pizza party; second prize includes T-shirts. The Paulding Summer Classic will be July 22-26 at Paulding Ball Fields for boys 10-and-under and 12-and-under all-star teams. Entry fee is $175. PC Express Track Club
COLUMBUS GROVE - The PC Express Track Club in Columbus Grove will have its first mini meet on July 2 at Clymer Stadium in Columbus Grove. The cost is $10 per athlete for one or all events. This includes all relays. Registration begins at 5 p.m. with the field events beginning at 5:30 p.m. Running events start at 6 p.m. The meet is open to all athletes ages 7-18.
