**************************************** *Van Wert youth baseball update VAN WERT – This summers T-ball and Minor League has been very exciting to watch. The coaches and parents have put in a lot of time to be involved in helping the kids to learn skills that they can use down the road and have helped them to just go out and have fun. Now with just one more weekend of season play for the T-ball and Minor league teams, the season is wrapping up and Tournament time is near. T-ball, which is played on Wednesday and Friday nights, has been enjoyable for everyone to watch. The kids involved have grown immensely since day one. Most of the teams started out a little rough around the edges, but each and every team has grown since the start. In the beginning many teams struggled in getting 3 outs every inning and the kids did not always know where to throw the ball. Now as the season is ending many teams are getting quick outs and are looking strong. It is fun to see just how much the kids have grown. The Chippewas are leading the league going into the last weekend with a record of 4-1. No team is undefeated which will make Tournament exciting for the kids and bystanders. Minor League, which is played on Saturdays primarily, has been fun to watch as well. The kids involved in Minor League are a little older than those in T-ball and have had more experience which makes the games thrilling to watch. The Minor League teams, like the T-ball teams, have also grown through the season. Teams are excelling in getting outs at first base and the kids are really starting to learn the bigger concepts in baseball. Players are starting to learn when to throw the ball and when not to and things like how to get ready to try and get double plays. Currently leading Minor league, going into the last weekend, is the Bees with a record of 5-1. The Muckdogs are closely behind with a record of 4-1. Tournament for both Minor League and T-ball will be held next week and weekend. The games are really exciting to watch and are only getting better. So come on out to Jubilee park to get in on the action. The championship games for T-ball and Minor league will be held on Saturday July 26th, so come on out. Good luck to all teams in tournament and congratulations on a great season. ***************************************************** *Softball News Release July 14th & July 15th by Evan Lewis Division II Church League (Monday Nights) Team Score 7:00 Trinity UM vs. K of C 9-24 7:00 Calvary White vs. 1st Baptist 10-8 8:00 CLC vs. North Union 13-12 9:00 1st Baptist vs. Calvary White 3-14 Highlights: - St. Mary’s K of C brought their record to a respectable 5-4 after defeated Trinity UM Monday night.
