Shawnee wins WBL Tourney; Cougars third
The Van Wert Golf Team travelled to Kettenring Country Club to participate in the Western Buckeye League Tournament. The tournament was hosted by the Defiance Bulldogs. Going into the tournament, the Cougars (9-0) were the number one seed with the Lima Shawnee Indians (7-2) the number two seed. Defiance, Wapakoneta, and St. Mary's all finished with identical 6-3 marks in the league. Celina checked in with a 5-4 mark while Elida had a 3-6 record. Ottawa Glandorf (2-7), Kenton (1-8), and Bath (0-9) rounded out the regular season.
For winning the regular season title the Cougars were awarded ten points while Shawnee earned nine points. The next three teams were given seven points to start the tournament. Celina (5 points), Elida (4), Ottawa Glandorf (3), Kenton (2) and Bath with one point as the tournament started. The Lima Shawnee Indians were the tournament champions with a fine score of 324. Second place went to the host team, the Defiance Bulldogs, as they tallied 334 while the Van Wert Cougars were close behind with 337. These three teams determined the overall Western Buckeye League Champion.
Shawnee was awarded the overall league championship with a total of 19 points, 10 for today and 9 going into the tournament. Van Wert was awarded the runners up championship in the league as they total 18 points, 8 for today and 10 for the regular season. Defiance ended up third in the league with 16 points. As for individuals, Shawnee's Cody Kopilchack and Celina's Scott Fleck each tied with four over par 74's. Kopilchack defeated Fleck on the first playoff hole to earn the tournaments Match Medalist honors. Fleck settled for runnerup medalist honors. Landon Stahler (77) from Wapakoneta and Mike Malone (79) from Shawnee were the only players to break the 80 mark.
For Van Wert, the Cougars were led by Senior Zach Leatherman as he tallied an 81. Senior Brock Thatcher had an 84 with Sophomore Blake Doidge coming in with an 85. Senior Austin Doidge finished off the team score with an 87. Senior Andrew Bashore and Sophomore Brandt Taylor had 95 and 97 respectively.
OTTAWA-GLANDORF 176, WAYNE TRACE 184, MILLER CITY 202: Marcus VonDerEmbse shot a 41 to pace the Titans at Pike Run. Jacob Hermiller had a 44, Trent Haughn had a 45 and both Alex Shomaeker and Michael Hanneman had 46s for O-G while Kevin Horstman shot a 49. Derek Griggs led Miller City with a 48, Matt Westrick and Tim Inkrott both had a 51 and Ben Rippetoe shot a 52.
RIDGEMONT 204, PERRY 205: Perry's Brey Buetner fired a 42 but Ridgemont won the match. Tyler Aikens shot a 45 for Perry (5-34, 3-7).
CRESTVIEW 181, BLUFFTON 183, SPENCERVILLE 185, ADA 241: Jamin Rager's 40 led Crestview to the win at Bluffton while Bluffton's Steven Jenkins had the low score with a 39. Chandler McCullough led Spencerville with a 45 while Matt Grey's 49 led Ada.
LINCOLNVIEW 162, PAULDING 165, DELPHOS JEFFERSON 181: Lincolnview finished the NWC regular season with a win at Auglaize Golf Club. Pierce Wolters shot a 39 for Lincolnview, Shane Lumpkin had a 39 for Paulding and Austin Clarkson had a 42 for Jefferson.

DELPHOS ST. JOHN'S 4, SHAWNEE 2: Victoria Recker and Bailey Calvelage each scored twice to lift the Blue Jays (4-5-1) to the win over the visiting Indians (4-4-2). Sarah Silone and Maegan Redick each scored for Shawnee.
KALIDA 3, BATH 0: Leah Gerding, Gina Verhoff and Kara Kaufman scored a goal apiece as Kalida improved to 7-1-2. Bath fell to 4-5-1. DEFIANCE 3, BLUFFTON 2: Bluffton (5-8) won both doubles matches but fell in singles play for the nonleague road loss. Jess Liska and Kelsea Kiene won at first doubles for Bluffton (5-8) while Kristi Geiser and Alex Anderson won at second doubles.
ST. MARYS 4, LCC 1: Megan Dominik, Kelly Fritz and Amy Ellis each won singles matches for the Roughriders while the doubles team of Lydia Krugh and Marian Krugh also won. Ashley Modney and Alexis Sheets won at doubles for LCC.
