CRESTVIEW JUNIOR HIGH CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL

CONVOY -- The Crestview Junior High Cross Country team will be hosting its annual invitational on Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at Edgewood Park in Convoy.  Competing at the invitational will be Celina, Van Wert, Elida, Lincolnview, Wayne Trace, Defiance, and Crestview.  The junior high girls' race will begin at 5:15 p.m. followed by the junior high boys' race at 5:45 p.m.  Preceding the junior high races will be a ½-mile Elementary Fun Run for K-3 runners at 4:45 p.m., and a one-mile Elementary Fun Run for runners in grades 3-6 starting at 5:00 p.m.  All area elementary students are welcome with ribbons being awarded to each elementary participant.

VAN WERT WINS ANTWERP INVITATIONAL:

COUGARS CLAIM TOP SPOT AT ANTWERP INVITATIONAL

"Van Wert continues the tradition," Van Wert Cougars Coach WW Grimm said.

ANTWERP -- North of Antwerp, along the Maumee River, sixty-nine golfers competed in the Antwerp Invitational. The Pond-a-River golf course hosted the event for the Archers.

The Van Wert Cougars ruled the field as they captured first place with a team score of 310.  Edgerton was a distant second with 323.  Paulding (326) finished in third place while Lincolnview (337) garnered the fourth team position.

Pacing the victors with a personal best round was Senior Andrew Bashore as he shot a fine round of 75.  Bashore finished as third best medalist on the day.

Following close behind was a pair of classmates as Austin Doidge (fourth medalist overall) and Brock Thatcher (sixth medalist overall) finished with identical 77's.  Rounding out the scoring for the Cougars was Sophomore Blake Doidge as he fired an 81.  Senior Zack Leatherman shot an 83. 

Match Medalist honors came down to a couple of cross town rivals as Lincolnview's Jeremy Morris and Crestview's Jamin Rager each shot 74.  A playoff determined the crown with Morris defeating Rager on the second hole.

Lincolnview's fourth place finish was capped off with Morris and teammates Pierce Wolters, Taylor Hoehn, and Caleb Girod.  AE Simpson (95) competed for the Lancers. Wolters led off for the Lancers with an 84.  Hoehn and Girod fired rounds of 89 and 90 respectively.

The Parkway Panthers (348) were able to edge out Crestview (353) for the seventh position as Tyler Oliver and Levon Archer each tallied rounds of 86.  One stroke behind was Zack Strobel while Corey Decker rounded out the Panthers score with an 89.  Chris Roth chipped in with a 94.

Crestview's eighth place finish was again spearheaded by Rager's runnerup medalist honors.  Jarret Upchurch had the second low score for the Knights with an 87.  Chan Hurless and Tyler Clifton finished off the scoring with 95 and 97 respectively.  Jacob Wortman was the fifth man for Crestview as he shot 104.

The Raiders of Wayne Trace had a team score of 391, good for thirteenth place.  Nick Germann paced the team with an 84 while Devon Snyder was second best score for the Raiders with a 95.  Henk Ackerman and Ryan Jewell followed with 105 and 107.  Cody Feasby contributed a 112.

DELPHOS JEFFERSON 3, PANDORA-GILBOA 2:

The Wildcats moved to 5-0 with the 25-17, 13-25, 24-26, 25-12, 15-9 victory. P-G falls to 5-2.
   Bridget Culp had 10 kills for Jefferson, Kristin Klausing had 21 digs and Mallory Wilson had 3 aces and 15 assists.
   Megan Gerdeman had 9 kills for P-G, Kaitlin Siefer had 26 assists and Kristyn Hovest had 13 digs. 
      

CRESTVIEW 3, NEW KNOXVILLE 1:

Crestview defeated New Knoxville 25-27, 25-18, 26-24, 25-16. Casey Horstman had 21 assists and 7 digs for the Rangers while Morgan Reineke had 17 kills and 12 digs.

Brad Allmindinger scored for the Cougars (0-3-2), while Ryan Kloeppel scored on a PK for the host Musketeers (0-5-1). Tyler Good had 15 saves for Fort Jennings, while Jacob Hood had 10 for Van Wert.

ELIDA INVITATIONAL: Celina scored 17 points to win the four-team Elida Invitational. Elida was second with 10 points, Van Wert followed with 4 points and Bluffton had 1 point.
