CRESTVIEW SELLING EXTENDED PASSES

CONVOY - The Crestview athletic department is currently selling extended passes for the 2008-09 school year.  All-Sports Passes are on sale and are good for all home-sporting events during the school year, excluding tournaments.  The cost is $100 for adults and $50 per student.  Football reserved seats will be on sale for $30 per seat.  Gate prices for this season will be $6 for varsity football games, $5 adults, $4 students for high school volleyball and soccer matches, and $3 adults, $2 for entry into all freshman football games and junior high athletic events.  Student varsity football season tickets will be $15.  Individual presale football tickets ($5 adult, $4 students) can be purchased on Fridays from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. in the athletic office.  All season tickets will continue to be on sale in the athletic office.  For further information, please contact the athletic office at 419-749-9100, option #3.

YWCA announcement

Learn to Swim at the YWCA of Van Wert County.  Whether you are a child, an infant, or an adult we have just what it is you are looking for. Parent/child classes are offered for that 6 mo to 4 year olds to give them the basics of the water.  At age 5 we start offering classes for those ready to learn the mechanics of swimming.  If you or a family member are just not sure of the water let us help by offering a Private Lesson of Instruction.  It is never to late to get those children, grandchildren or even yourself into lessons at the YWCA of Van Wert County, call today 419-238-6639. Volleyball

Coldwater 3 Crestview 1

The Lady Knights opened up the 2008 Volleyball season as they traveled to Coldwater.  The Knights were defeated by the Cavaliers the first two games of the match with scores of 22-25 and 17-25.  In the third game the Knights battled back and took control by winning 25-17.  The fourth and deciding game was too much for the Knights and came up short with the final score of 15-25.  The Lady Knights will be back on the road on Thursday traveling to Miller City in another non-conference match-up.

On the defensive end the Knights were led by Melissa Eickholt and Kelsey Nedderman.  Kelsey also led in blocks.

Crestview JV was victorious as they defeated Coldwater in 2 games with scores of 26-24 and 25-18.

Coach's comments:  It was nice to finally get the season underway with an official match, but tonight we didn't have our "A" game.  We lacked consistency in tonight's match, but as a team we can only build on this and use it as a learning tool as we begin focusing on our next match.   The girls work hard and that showed as they did not give up in the third game to keep the match going.  We'll continue to strive on our team saying this year - "Motivation gets us started.... Desire keeps us going."

Kalida 3 Van Wert 1

Kalida defeated Van Wert 3-1 in its season opener at Van Wert.  Scores were 25-23, 17-25, 25-18, 25-14.  Kalida improves to 1-0 on the season and Van Wert falls to 0-2.  Leading the Ladycats was Ashley Remlinger's 16 kils and 2 aces.  Jess Knueve added 9 kills and a pair of aces.  Both Amy Hamburg and Julia Fuerst had 5 kills.  Amy VonderEmbse dished out 16 assists and 4 aces, while Emily Turnwald added 8 assists and 3 aces.  Stacie Heitmeyer had 16 digs to lead the Ladycats defensively.

The Kalida JV was also victorious 25-23, 25-23.

Kalida hosts Ottoville in a rare Friday night PCL match this Friday with the JV starting at 5:00.

Boys Cross Country

The Van Wert boys cross country team took first place at Tuesday's Wayne Trace Invitational. The Cougars won the varsity race with a score of 70 points. Ottoville finished second with 98. Lincolnview was third with 106. There were 12 teams figured into the team scoring. Van Wert's Jacob Bagley won the race in a time of 17:08. Rounding out the pack for the Cougars were Brian Easley (7^th, 18:19); Nick Kallas (17^th, 18:55); Luke Strick (22^nd, 19:14); Luke Brubaker (23^rd, 19:14); Nathan Simson (30^th, 19:41) and Josh Roberts (41^st, 20:10). There were 78 runners in the varsity race.

In the junior varsity race, Van Wert's Brian Voisard finished second in his first-ever race (19:45). Rounding out the Cougars were Dustin Farmer (3^rd, 20:15); Cody Haines (4^th, 20:32) and Adam Saylor (6^th, 20:45).

Van Wert coach Mark Altstaetter said his team is showing improvement already. "From top to bottom, our team ran solid," Altstaetter said. "Jacob, of course, ran a very strong race and showed everyone that he can take a race over when he wants to. "Now, if we can get Kenton Holliday healthy, we're going to be in great shape. I'm excited so far about this team."

Holliday is expected to return this coming weekend when the Cougars travel to Wapak.

Van Wert's record in all meets stands at 18-1.
