Softball: Lady Cougars 3 St. Henry 0VAN WERT -- The Van Wert Lady Cougars played host to the St. Henry Lady Redskins and shutout them out with a 3-0 victory in varsity girl's softball action Monday night at VW's Jubilee Park Field. Morgan Williams stepped onto the mound and delivered another solid outing giving up just four singles. She walked one Redskin while striking out 10. "Morgan hit her spots well tonight," said Van Wert coach Jeff Bolenbaugh. Brittany Bolenbaugh delivered a two out, two RBI double in the third inning to get the Lady Cougars on the score board. Madison Kohn led off the inning and reached by a Redskin error. Kara Thomas worked a walk with still with nobody out. After a strike out and a ground out, Bolenbaugh delivered her shot. "I thought the wind was going to hold it up enough to be caught. We were lucky that it found grass and skipped by the center fielder." Coach Bolenbaugh said. Carlee Brown led off the fourth inning with a single and reached second on the error by the St. Henry left fielder. She then went to third base on a wild pitch. Lauren Mosier hit a double down the right field line to score Brown and collect an RBI. Brown and Mosier were both 1-2 at the plate, while Bolenbaugh and McClellan went 1-3 for the Lady Cougars. Van Wert will open their WBL season on Tuesday with the Indians from Shawnee at Jubilee Park. ----- Shawnee 20 Kalida oKALIDA — It started out good for Shawnee and got even better. The Indians softball team hung a 20-0 win on Kalida on Monday night.The Indians (3-1) scored six runs in the first and nine in the fourth. Chelsea Lingenfelter improved to 2-1 by pitching three innings. She struck out nine and walked none.Shawnee’s Erin Turner turned in a monster game at the plate, going 4 of 5 with eight RBIs. She had a double and two home runs. Teammate Lauren Miller had two hits, including a homer, and three RBI’s.Kalida dropped to 0-1. ----- Continental 10, Holgate 0CONTINENTAL — Jessica Hanefeld pitched five shutout innings, giving up three hits and one walk while striking out eight to lead Continental to its second win in as many games.Hanefeld added two hits, a single and a double, while driving in a run and scoring once. ----- Minster 4, Delphos Jefferson 0MINSTER — Delphos Jefferson Girls fast-pitch softball team dropped its opening game of the season at Minster tonight, 4-0. Shauna Bowers took the loss in her first tune-up game. Jenny Prenger had two doubles and knocked in two runs for the Wildcats of Minster. Megan Stueve scattered four hits to hold the Wildcats of Jefferson scoreless.Minster scored all four runs in the first three innings to stake itself to a non-league win over Jefferson. Minster improved to 1-0. ----- Arlington 11, Leipsic 0LEIPSIC — A quiet game quickly got out of hand when Arlington broke open a scoreless tie with 11 runs in the final three innings. The Red Devils (1-3) posted 10 runs in the sixth.Despite striking out seven batters, Dani Mangas took the loss for Leipsic (0-1). -------------------------- Baseball: Hicksville 12 Lincolnview 1HICKSVILLE -- The young and inexperienced Lincolnview Lancers fell to a solid Hicksville squad by a 12-1 count Monday night in varsity baseball action.Lincolnview (0-3) scored in the first on doubles by seniors Lance Dasher and Mike Evans, but were unable to hold the lead. The Aces (1-1) got to starter Jordan simpson for five runs in the third inning, and after three straight hits to start the fourth, Simpson was pulled in favor of younger brother Anthony. Hicksville went on for a six-run fourth, putting the game out of reach. "I thought we were in good position early in the game. We scored first, and Jordan had a strong first two innings. Jordan struck out the first batter in the third, but then seemed to lose his location a bit and Hicksville did a fine job of driving the ball the opposite way. We know the early part of our schedule is difficult, but we wiil keep working to get better," Lancer Coach Roger Salisbury said. ----- Parkway 7, Delphos Jefferson 0ROCKFORD — Despite being saddled with five errors and only five hits, Parkway managed to stay unbeaten with a non-league win over Jefferson.The Panthers are 6-0. ----- Arlington 10, Leipsic 3LEIPSIC — After Leipsic had pulled within 5-3 in the third, Arlington responded with two runs in the both the fourth and fifth to knock out the win.Nate Schroeder picked up the loss for the Vikings (1-1), but he did hit a home run.Trevor Gast struck out 14 batters for the Red Devils (4-0). ----- Heritage, Ind. 3, Crestview 0HERITAGE, Ind. — Crestview fell for the first time this year, dropping to 3-1, with the loss in Indiana. Kyle Balliet picked up the loss while walking two and striking out three. ----- Defiance 4, Paulding 2PAULDING — Three runs in the top of the first inning gave Defiance all it needed in a non-league win. Richie Killion took care of the rest for the Bulldogs, striking out 15 batters and allowing one walk while running his record to 2-0.Jared Riley recorded seven strikeouts in the loss.Offensively for Defiance, Jim Frey had two hits, including a double. Kraig Gutman hit a homer.The Bulldogs improved to 3-1 while Paulding remained winless at 0-3. ---- Kalida 4, Miller City 1MILLER CITY — Kalida saved all of its runs for the third inning as the visiting Wildcats won their Putnam County League opener. Ryan Klemen, Doug McIntrye and Jordan Basinger each drove in runs.Matt Schnipke won his first decision of the year, striking out six and walking three.Kirk Meyer pitched seven innings for Miller City, walking five batters and striking out seven.Kalida and Miller City are both 1-1. Kalida is 1-0 in the PCL while Miller City is 0-1. ----- Pandora-Gilboa 8, Vanlue 2PANDORA — Austin Blaski sat down eight batters with strikeouts and hit a two-run triple as Pandora-Gilboa evened its record at 1-1.The Rockets scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game away.Tyler Swery and Jordan Lehman both hit doubles for the Rockets. ----- Ottawa-Glandorf 11, Fort Jennings 0FORT JENNINGS — Tyler Leatherman hit a double and a home run while driving in five RBIs as O-G ran its record to 3-0.Alex Schomaeker got credit for the win, his first of the season.
