ARLINGTON -- The Van Wert golf team will participate in the Division II District Tournament today at the Sycamore Springs golf course located in Arlington. The team is coming off a second place finish at the Sectional Tournament that was held last Thursday at the Country Acres golf course. Sophomore Blake Doidge was the tournaments medalist with a 73 and he was followed by Seniors Brock Thatcher and Austin Doidge's 81. Zach Leatherman completed the scoring with an 84. Going into the district tournament, the Bryan Golden Bears (307) may be the early favorites to get a ticket to the State Tournament to be held next week in Columbus at the outstanding venue of The Scarlet Golf Course at Ohio State University. Van Wert (319) brings the second best qualifying score into the tournament followed by Shelby (325), Clearfork (328), and Wauseon (329). Edison (331), Rossford (336), Lake (342), and Genoa (346) will also compete. These nine teams were combined from three different sectionals to make up this district tournament. Only two of these teams will advance to the State Tournament next week. Along with the team event, all individuals not on the qualifying teams will be competing for the two individual spots. These two individual qualifiers will also be invited to play at the State Tournament next week. Joining all the teams will be twelve individual sectional qualifiers. From the Country Acres sectional will be Stykeman (75) from Defiance, Lambert (76) and Barnes (80) from Napoleon, and Kaiser (80) from Coldwater. From the Heatherdowns sectional the qualifiers were Hunt (73) from Port Clinton, Jimison (79) from Swanton, Kuns (80) from Margaretta, and DelGarbino (82) from Clyde. The Eagle Creek sectional will send Smith (74) and Powell (75) from Galion, Marvin (75) from Bellevue and Kime (76) from Bucyrus. In division III action, Anthony Simpson from Lincolnview will be competing in the Division III golf tournament to be held at the Stoney Ridge golf course in Bowling Green. Along with Simpson will be Tyler Oliver and Tyler Decker from Parkway. Simpson was the number two individual qualifier from the Hawthorne Hills sectional. Simpson qualified with an 80. Oliver and Decker, the number one and three qualifiers, shot 79 and 81 respectively.
