Paulding 49, Lincolnview 41 (OT)
The Paulding Panthers defeated the Lincolnview Lancers 49-41 in overtime Friday in a boy’s basketball NWC contest. Lincolnview probably played one of their better games of the season, but unfortunately for Lancer fans, it seems that victory eludes this team.
The score was deadlocked at nine at the first stop, but Paulding finally found their range in the second stanza and led 21-12 at the break. Instead of folding as in games past, the Lancers came out in the third quarter and played inspired basketball. When the dust had settled, the Lancers were back in the contest, trailing by just three at 32-29.
Lincolnview’s first tie came midway through the final quarter at 33-33, and then the Lancers went on a 6-0 run to take a 39-33 advantage with just over one minute to go in regulation. Paulding had one last gasp though, and the Panthers finished the last minute on a 6-0 run to send the game into overtime. After both teams traded buckets in the extra period, Paulding made 4-of-5 free throws to seal the deal.
Bermejo led Paulding with 11 points, while teammates Riley and Welch both added ten. Game-high honors went to Lincolnview's Simpson with 14 markers, while teammates Longstreth ended with 12 and Whitaker with ten points.
