Antwerp 35, Wayne Trace 21
HAVILAND - The Antwerp Archers brought their "A" game offensively Friday night, racking up 443 total yards of offense en route to a convincing 35-21 win over Wayne Trace. The Archers overcame a three-touchdown performance from Raiders' leading rusher Tevin Hale. The speedster tallied scores on 15, 86, and 1-yard runs. Antwerp would off-set Hale's performance with the VW-Area's leading rusher, Josh Smith, who registered 208 yards on the ground, while also scoring three touchdowns. The Archers (3-4, 1-3 GMC) opened up the scoring when Quinn Tempel, the VW-Area leading passer, connected on a beautiful 15-yard lob to the front corner of the end-zone to Shaile Chamberlain. Gabe Cruz made it 7-0 on the extra point conversion and the Archers were off and running. Wayne Trace knotted the score at 7-all on a 15-yard scamper by Hale, who would also give the Raiders something to cheer about just before the half, returning a kick-off 86 yards for the score. Unfortunately for the Raider faithful, it was all Antwerp and Anthony Smith from that point. Smith added two second quarter TD's to boost the Archers to a 21-14 advantage, and then after a John Rindahl TD run in the third stanza, he added icing on the Archers' cake with a 6-yard run to paydirt in the final quarter. Wayne Trace falls to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the GMC with the setback.
