VAN WERT - It was tough night Friday for a number of area teams, as: Van Wert fell to Wapakoneta 21-7; Crestview was whitewashed by Delphos Jefferson 49-0; Delphos St. John's was pounded by Marion Local 42-0; Parkway was annihilated by Coldwater 51-6; Paulding was spanked by Ada 55-15; Wayne Trace was blasted by Tinora 42-3; and Antwerp was steamrolled by Fairview 52-21.

Wapakoneta 21, Van Wert 7
WAPAKONETA - The Van Wert Cougars fell to the Wapak Redskins Friday night by a 21-7 count. Wapak is now 2-4 overall and 2-3 in the Western Buckeye League with the "W", while Van Wert fell to 3-3 and 3-2 in the WBL. The Cougars did not have an answer for Redskins quarterback Jake Lambert, who completed 11 of 16 passes for 150 yards and three TD's (13-yards to Josh Kelly, 10-yards to Drew Erb, and 41-yards to Josh Bartlett). That performance pushed Wapak out to an insurmountable 21-0 advantage entering the final quarter (Dan Dripps connected on all three PAT's). The Cougars finally dented the scoreboard on a 68-yard gallop by Conner Massillo, who finished the game with 107 yards rushing on just nine carries. Nate Adams connected on the PAT-kick for the Cougars. Nate Hoverman was 5 of 12 for 35 yards, while rushing the ball for 51 yards on 15 carries. Cougar runner Sam Tindall added 27 yards, but left the game due to an undisclosed injury.

Jacob Pohl led a balanced Coldwater rushing attack with 51 yards. Tony Harlamert added 45 yards on six rushes as eight Cavaliers gained double digits in rushing.

ADA - The Paulding Panthers had no answer for Ada's Mitchell Faine, who tallied six touchdowns in the Bulldogs' 55-15 victory Friday night over the Panthers. The victory keeps the Bulldogs undefeated at 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the NWC, while the Panthers slide to 3-3 overall and 1-4 in league play. Colby Dysert also scored twice for Ada, while Matt McBride and Alex Weber notched a solo touchdown each. Ada racked up 516 total yards on offense (261 rushing, 255 passing). Faine rushed for 109 yards on 15 carries. Also for Ada, kicker Nick Agin connected on two fields goals (33 and 45 yards). Paulding gathered 234 yards of total offense, including two touchdown tosses by quarterback Haden Sholl.

HAVILAND - Tinora raced out to an insurmountable 28-0 lead in the first quarter and Wayne Trace never recovered, as the Rams went on to record a 42-3 Green Meadows Conference victory. Blake Foor ran for 144 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Rams (3-3, 2-1), while Lucas Willitzer added 103 yards rushing and a score. Tevin Hale ran for 104 yards to pace the Raiders, who fall to 2-4 on the season and 1-2 in the conference.

ANTWERP -- The Antwerp Archers scored first on a 1-yard tote by Josh Smith, but then watched Fairview register 24 unanswered points. Fairview recorded 27 first downs and threw for almost 400 yards in the air to overcome the Archers 52-21 Friday in Green Meadow Conference action. With the win, Fairview improves to 5-1 overall, 3-0 in the GMC, while Antwerp falls to 2-4 overall, 0-3 in the league. James Elchinger went 22-of-32 for 389 yards and seven touchdowns, while go-to-guy Ben Wonderly carried three of his 11 receptions into the endzone.

CRESTVIEW - The Crestview Knights celebrated their homecoming before the game Friday, but that's where the celebration stopped for the Knights' faithful, as the Delphos Jefferson Wildcats drubbed their NWC hosts by a 49-0 count. Jefferson displayed why they are a team to be reckoned with in 2008, as Wildcat running backs rushed for 310 yards on 41 carries. D-Cat Aaron Schuerman led the way with 103 of those yards on just 11 carries, scoring two touchdowns on runs of 1 yard and 8 yards. He also tallied a 20-yard TD pass reception. Teammate Derek "Bubba" Shivley added 87 yards on five totes of the ball, scoring one TD. Jefferson quarterback Josh Miller completed three of four passes, but those three completions all went for scores. A number of Wildcats recorded career nights: Sean Osting (11 tackles which included 1 for a loss and 1 sack, 1 QB hit and 1 blocked punt recovered for a TD); Aaron Schuerman (11 rushes for 109 yards with 2 TD's, 2 receptions for 26 with 1 TD, 2 interceptions); Derek Shivley (85 yards on 5 carries. 1 TD run of 74 yards, 6 tackles); Stuart Miller (9 tackles); and Ryan Kortokrax (6 tackles and 1 interception). Derek Shivley left the field in the second quarter with an undisclosed injury. Overall, the Wildcats' defense held Crestview to 150 total yards (21 rushing, 129 passing).
