VAN WERT - The 2008 Varsity Football Season opened Friday night, as seven of the eight VW-Area Teams were in action (Delphos St. John's hosts LCC tonight). In games concerning area teams: Delphos Jefferson routed Perry 74-6; Parkway handled Crestview 33-14; Paulding ran away from Wayne Trace 56-14; Van Wert lost a tough one to Bryan 13-10; and Antwerp slipped past Edon 21-13.

Delphos Jefferson 74 Perry 6

DELPHOS - The Delphos Jefferson Wildcats sent a strong message to the rest of their opponents on their schedule for 2008 with a 74-6 blasting of Lima Perry Friday night at Delphos' Stadium Park Field. Jefferson, fielding a veteran team, scored early and often in their rout of former NWC opponent Perry. The D-Cats posted 56 first half points in deciding this outcome. Jefferson's JV Team played the entire second half. A number of Wildcats had career nights: Tyree DeWitt (3 carries for 82 yards, including a 68-yard TD-run, 6 tackles); Aaron Schuerman (2 rushing TD's); Andrew Wiltsie (61-yard TD-run); Logan Bonifas (82-yard kick-off return for a TD); Bubba Shivley (1 interception return for a 45-yard TD, 5-carries for 47 yards); Matthew Antalis (8-for-8 in PAT Kicks; averaged 54.1-yards on kick-offs, 22-yard TD-run); Jordan Jettinghoff (10 tackles); and Justin Bame (7 tackles). Jefferson ended the night with 321 yards rushing.

VAN WERT - The Cougars bolted out to a 10-6 halftime advantage, but could not hold on as the Bryan Golden Bears posted six third quarter points en rout to a 13-10 victory Friday night in VW's Eggerss Stadium. Sam Tindall led the VW rushing attach with 64 yards on eight carries, while Donny Sites carried the ball16 times for 49 yards. Sites also tallied the Cougars lone touchdown on a 1-yard plunge. Austin Reichert booted a 27-yard field goal to round out the scoring for the Cougars. Van Wert was held to 157 total yards of offense.

CONVOY - Crestview dominated the first half, surging to a 14-7 lead at the break, but the final two quarters belonged to Parkway, as the Panthers rolled to a 33-14 victory Friday night at the Crestview Sport's Complex. Parkway's offense finally got untracked in the second half, scoring four TD's (posting 26 points), while racking up 314 yards of total offense.

Paulding 56 Wayne Trace 14

HAVILAND - The Paulding Panthers won the St. Rt. 127 battle, defeating their counterparts from Wayne Trace by a convincing 56-14 count Friday night in Haviland. Corbin Rhonehouse led the Purple Panthers with 153 yards on 16 carries that included a 57-yard TD-jaunt. Overall, Paulding dominated on the ground, totaling 378 yards. Paulding also faired well in the air, as quarterback Haden Sholl completed 6 of 8 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns (71-yards to Andrew Mott and 39-yards to Garrett Stoller).
