VAN WERT -- The Van Wert High School girls' tennis team held its annual awards banquet recently. The team finished fifth overall in the Western Buckeye League and had a winning record of 7-4 for the year.
"This was one of the best seasons for the Van Wert girls and all of the girls played their hearts out and really gave me 100 percent the whole year," Coach Mitch Price said.
Price thanked the seniors for their four years on the team, noting they would be missed next year, but adding that they are leaving the tennis program in great shape.
Those earning special awards included Brooke Keber (most improved junior varsity player), Whitney Owens (most improved varsity player), and Kaylee Stanski (most valuable player).
The Coach's Award went to the following players: Owens, Stanski, Kristen Schlatter, Terry Simson, Morgan Stemen, Melissa Bloomfield and Laurie Liatos.
"It was a great year and I am looking forward to next year, because we will be a contender in the WBL," Coach Price added in closing.
