MIDDLE POINT -- The Van Wert Lady Cougars traveled to Lincolnview for a home varsity softball contest (wet ball diamond at Jubilee Park) Wednesday night and came away with a 4-0 victory. 

Freshman Morgan Williams got her first varsity start on the mound and threw a beauty of a game, holding the Lancers to one hit, while gathering 10 strikeouts. "She was a little nervous to start the game, but she threw very well. Morgan was able to spot the ball and keep the Lincolnview hitters off balance with her off speed stuff. Its going to be nice to have two hard throwing pitchers this year," said second year Cougar head coach Jeff Bolenbaugh. "Although I think that she lost focus a little in the 7th inning, it was just her first start. She came out and delivered a good quality game in which she did not give up any walks," added coach Bolenbaugh.

Offensively for the Cougars, Carlee Brown was 1-2 with an RBI single and a run scored. Kara Thomas went 1-1 with a run scored. Madison Kohn went 1-2 with a run scored. Marie Gamble went 1-2 and Jessica McClellan went 1-3 with a run scored. Also, Gamble and McClellan both had a stolen base.

McClellan led of the 2nd inning with her single. In route to stealing second base, an errant throw that went into center field brought McClellan to third base. She then scored on the single by Brown. A couple of wild pitches later and she crossed the plate for a 2-0 led after two innings. The Cougars scored their other two runs in the fifth inning. Kohn led off with a single, followed by a SAC bunt by Thomas. A bad throw from the bunt went down the right field line which in turn scored Kohn from first base and then a bad relay from the outfield and Thomas trotted in for the fourth run of the game.
