VW-Area Winter Sport's Preview: VW Girls Basketball

VAN WERT -- Destri Bockey is starting her first year as head coach at VWHS for the girl's basketball team this season. Last season, Coach Bockey led the Van Wert girl's junior varsity to a 15-5 season and assisted with the varsity program. She is a member of the class of 2003 from VWHS and graduated from Belmont University where she played basketball. Krista Etzler will be the varsity assistant. She is a Crestview graduate and attended Xavier and Ashland University where she played basketball. Rob Adams will be coaching the JV girl's team. He is a 1999 graduate of VWHS and attended OSU. Lettermen returning: Olivia Moore, Jessica McClellan, Kandace Stanski, Alexa Jent, and Nikki Morrow; Last year's record: 8-13 overall; 2-7 in WBL; Promising newcomers: Madison Kohn, Erika Jones, Nikki Young, Ashley Mohr, Lindsey Minnig, and Molly Gamble; Projected starting five: Jessica McClellan, Olivia Moore, Madison Kohn, Kandace Stanski, and Alexa Jent; Strengths for the season: Ability to learn, versatility, quickness, depth in all positions; Weaknesses for the season: Communication; League outlook: "We are really looking to compete for a spot in the top third of the WBL and produce a winning season," Coach Bockey said. Overall outlook: "I am looking forward to using the team chemistry these girls have on the court and the great leadership that the upperclassmen have shown in the preseason. We have great depth and with all the girls working toward a common goal of success and a winning season......we couldn't be more excited from a staff standpoint," Coach Bockey said.
