Sidney fell to one of the area’s top team, Wayne, in a 1-0 verdict Thursday in boys soccer action at the high school. The loss leaves the Yellow Jackets at 7-6-1 on the season heading into a game Tuesday at Lebanon. Wayne, ranked No. 4 in the Miami Valley, is now10-3 on the year.
Despite the loss, Sidney coach Eric Harlamert was pleased with his team’s play. “I really felt we outplayed them,” he said. “I thought the game turned on a couple of calls that didn’t go our way. On one, one referee was signalling for a substitute, but the center referee didn’t see him. Out kids stopped for just a second and that’s when they scored. “It was one of the best nights of soccer we’ve had this season,” he added. “We had our opportunities, but their goalie was 6-foot-6 and hard to get one by. We played great soccer and I was proud of our sportsmanship considering the calls.” The junior varsity team lost 4-1. Sidney’s goal came from Wataru Nakajima, off an assist from Jimmy Marsh. Eagles fall 5-0 Christian Academy dropped a 5-0 verdict to Dayton Temple Christian in boys soccer Thursday. The Eagles trailed 2-0 at the half.
