LEBANON — Sidney posted one of its biggest wins of the season in boys soccer action Tuesday, defeating Lebanon 2-1 on the road. The win puts the Jackets at 8-6-1 while Lebanon, which was ranked sixth in Division I in the Miami Valley, is now 8-5-2. “I’m really proud of how we played and adapted to the (artificial) turf they have,” said Sidney coach Eric Harlamert. “It was a big win for us. We beat one of the big boys, so to speak.”
Sidney led 1-0 at the half on a goal with 5:25 remaining by Evan Rees, unassisted. He took a shot, then knocked it back in after it bounced off a defender. Sidney made it 2-0 in the second period with 26:36 remaining in the game off a corner kick. Ethan Langhorst sent the ball in, and Ethan Headings was there to knock it in. Sidney kept Lebanon off the board until an unassisted goal by John Bamber with 4:58 remaining, but that was it for the home team. “I thought our back four of Chris Gaier, Ethan Headings, Mitch Fannon and Gage Woolley played an outstanding game,” said Harlamert. “And Austin Kleinhans (goalie) had two brilliant saves. The shots were pretty even and Lebanon had some opportunities.” In junior varsity action, Lebanon won 1-0. Sidney returns to action Thursday at home against Chaminade in the final game of the regular season. Cavs win 7-0 TROY — Lehman made a long wait worthwhile by blanking Troy Christian 7-0 in boys soccer action Tuesday at Troy Christian. There were no referees assigned to the game, so by the time phone calls rounded up an official, it was 50 minutes past the scheduled starting time. Once the game started, Lehman wasted no time getting on the board. Wade Schroeder stole the ball near midfield, dribbled down and scored only 25 seconds into the game. Aaron Stevenson then crossed the ball to Schroeder for a header to give Lehman a 2-0 lead at the half. The Cavs outshot Troy Christian 23-1 in the first half. Lehman added five more goals in the second half, including another by Schroeder for the hat trick. He scored the first off an assist from Mike McMahon, then Schroeder assisted on a goal by Adam Freytag. McMahon scored on an assist from Freytag, then Aaron Sprague assisted on the final two goals, one by McMahon and another by Bryan McDonagh. Lehman outshot the Eagles 41-3 and Dan Westerheide finished with three saves. The win puts the Cavs at 11-3-1 on the season heading into a game Thursday at home against Miami Valley.
