Sidney’s boys soccer team upped its record to 5-4-1 with a 3-2 victory over a good Greenville squad Tuesday night at the high school.

The Jackets led 2-0 at the half, but watched as Greenville scored two quick goals early in the second period to knot the game up.

“I knew they were good,” Sidney coach Eric Harlamert said of Greenville. “They had just beaten Vandalia 4-0 and they have 14 seniors. That team is the real deal, and they have one of the best players in the area in Austin List. We made sure to keep an eye on him.”

The Jackets scored with 9:29 left in the first period when Andy Beigel scored off an assist from Chris Farrell.

Then with just 55 seconds left in the half, Evan Schlagetter drilled a free kick into the net for a 2-0 lead.

Greenville then scored goals with 33:10 and 32:03 remaining in the game to tie the score up, and List had a hand in both.

“He got away on the first one and it was just raw speed,” said Harlamert. “Then he played a corner kick for a header to tie it up.”

It came down to 17:50 remaining, when Schlagetter picked up a loose ball near midfield, took on the defense, and slotted the ball along the ground and past the goalie.

“It was a real intense battle in the second half, but a clean, well played game, and well-officiated,” said Harlamert. “Austin Kleinhans had a brilliant save in the first half for us. We got the lead and then hung on against a very good team.”

The Sidney reserves tied 2-2, the goals coming from Brett Rowley unassisted, and Austin Fogle on a header with 15 minutes remaining.

Trojans win 6-0

BOTKINS — Botkins had an easy time in boys soccer Tuesday, beating Troy Christian 6-0 to up its record on the year to 6-2-3.

Kurt Egbert led the Trojans with three goals and an assist, and Jordan Paul had two goals. Tyler Schmerge got the other goal and also had an assist.

Botkins outshot the Eagles 17-4.

Anna wins 2-1

CASSTOWN — Anna went on the road and came away with a 2-1 win over Miami East in girls soccer Tuesday.

The Lady Rockets took a 2-0 lead when Kyleigh Overbey scored off an assist from Erica Schrage with 29 minutes left in the first period, and Stacey Dodd scored on a penalty kick with 34 minutes left in the game.

Miami East came back just one minute later and scored on a goal by Alicia Coverstone, but that was all the scoring.

Anna goalie Whitney Zumberger had 13 saves, giving her a career total of 677.

Lady Cavs win 2-1

GREENVILLE — The Lehman girls also went on the road and got a victory Tuesday, edging Greenville 2-1, with all the scoring coming in the first half.

Lehman jumped to a 1-0 lead just 90 seconds into the game on a goal by Gretchen Walters off a through ball from Maggie Franklin.

The lead lasted until midway through the first half when Greenville made a shot that hit off the upper left post and into the back of the net.

Lehman got the game-winner with 4:26 left in the first half on a rebound shot off the Greenville goalie by Walter.

Lehman, now 8-1, outshot Greenville 20-7.

Lehman JVs win

The Lehman junior varsity boys team beat Christian Academy 7-1.

Garrett Keifer had three goals for the Cavaliers, and Matt Ulrich, nathan Pax, Justin Pleasant and Troy Baker all had one each.
