Russia holds the upper hand going into the County Boys Golf Meet in a week after defeating Anna in a showdown at Shelby Oaks Thursday, 163-166. Both teams entered the match at 5-0 in county play. The Raiders were led by medalist Corey Bremigan, who shot a 39. Zach Borchers had a 40, Ryan Bremigan 41 and Nathan Wilson 43.
For Anna, Brandyn Heitman had a 40, and Zach Koppin, Nick Overbey and Trey Billing all shot 42. The county meet is Thursday at the Oaks. • Sidney bested archrival Piqua by 15 strokes, 155-170, in Thursday, with Zach Yinger shooting a 3-under 33 to lead the way. That’s the best score in the area so far this season. Jonathan Lowe had a 37, Parker Jordan 40 and Corey Teague 45 for the Jackets. Brody Fox had a 35 for Piqua. • Jackson Center won its second county match, edging Botkins at the Oaks 179-181 Thursday. The Tigers were led by Aaron Klopfenstein with a 42. Blake Zimpfer had a 45, and Derek Metz and Dillon Huffer both had 46. For Botkins, Eric Ambos was the medalist with a 38, Trey Bauer had a 45, and Tyler Shaffer and Lance Meyer both shot 49. • Fort Loramie had 177 to 188 for Houston in action at Arrowhead. Ryan Grant had a 41, Frank Boerger 42, and Rick Robinson and Chad Hoehne 47 for Loramie. Travis Oberlander had a 44 to lead Houston and Zach Kiehl and Adam Grillot both had 47. • Fairlawn defeated Ridgemont at the Oaks 193-231. Brad Henman led with a 44 and Seth Meyer and Dustin Oates both had 47. • Marion Local’s girls had 211 to 235 for Russia at the Mercer County Elks Thursday. Lauren Subler had a 48 and Nicole Goettemoeller 50 for Marion. Russia’s Chelsea Clough was the medalist with a 47. • Minster shot a 154 to win over New Knoxville’s 197 in action at Arrowhead Thursday. Craig Purpus shot a 36 and Matt Borchers 38 for the Wildcats. Adam Sherman and Ben Hogenkamp both added 40. Caleb Allen led the Rangers with a 43. Minster is now 7-0 in league play. • New Bremen shot 166 to 182 for Marion in action at Arrowhead. Christopher Williams shot a 37 to lead the Cardinals, Kyle Evers had a 41, and Martin Holdren and Nathan Smith both shot 44. The Bremen girls had 217 to 222 for Mation at the Mercer Elks.
