By MATT HILDERBRAND The People’s Defender The Peebles Indians gained a close victory over the Ripley Blue Jays on Thursday, May 1 with a final score of 8-6, despite the heavy winds that ensued throughout the game.
The Indians gave a rocky start to their Senior Night game, allowing Ripley to score two runs in their first three batters. However, Peebles pitcher Andrew Seaman was able to deliver a strikeout to help revitalize the Peebles defensive and the top of the first was ended without another run for Ripley. In the bottom of the first, the Peebles offensive also started off slow, ending out their at-bat without a run scored. Peebles entered the second inning determined to make up for their performance in the first. Seaman delivered two strikeouts and a play to first to quickly end Ripley’s chance at a run. The Indians offense also entered the second inning fully charged, with each of the teams Seniors, Michael Dunlap, Corey Fisher, and Jeremiah Sowards, scoring a run. The Blue Jays made a dash ahead of the Indian’s in the third, with Seaman walking two batters in a row, which would lead to two runs. The Indians were finally able to end Ripley’s turn at-bat with help from the infield and outfield. The bottom of the inning was scoreless for Peebles. After enduring a shaky first half, and being one run down, the Indians came out ready to play in the fourth, with three quick outs in the top of the inning. Peebles then went on a scoring streak, with three runs in a row to bring the score to 6-4 in their favor. Despite Peebles strong defense, the Blue Jays were able to score another run before the Indians put away the top of the fifth. Peebles encountered another scoring drought in the bottom of the inning. Peebles was able to deny Ripley a run in the top of the sixth, with another display of defensive strength from their infield and outfield players. The Indians gained another two runs in the bottom of the inning to give them a three run lead over the Blue Jays. Ripley was able to score another run in the top of the sixth inning, but they were not able to rally a comeback. Peebles would win with a final score of 8-6.
