Both teams made quick plays in the infield to end the first inning without a run. The Indians solid defense again left the Dragons without a run in the second but came out swinging in the bottom of the inning as Eric Shoemaker drove in Storm Boyd and Nate Stephens while West Union’s defense succumbed to several crippling errors. “We’ve had good games and bad games,” said West Union Coach Tony Staggs. “This just turned out to be one of the bad ones.” West Union blew an opportunity to respond and put themselves on the board in the top of the third. With runners on second and third, the Indian defense, led by pitcher Eric Shoemaker, asserted itself and stalled the Dragon attack and West Union would never threaten again. Despite stronger efforts from the dragon fielders, Blake Justice placed another run on the board for Peebles in the bottom of the stanza but held the Indians scoreless in the fourth. However, the Indians would not stay down for long and Andrew Seaman and Justice each added runs to the board to start the fifth. After Tyler Arnold struck out, Boyd and Stephens once again positioned themselves on first and second, as Shoemaker stepped up to the plate. After falling two down in the count, Shoemaker hit a line drive right towards WUHS pitcher Ash Price. After fumbling the catch, Price threw the ball to Craig Staggs at third who was unable to catch the off-balance throw as Boyd ran through third towards home. Staggs recovered the ball and Boyd retreated back to third. Staggs passed the ball to shortstop Daulton Lewis, who tagged Stephens on his way from second to third as Boyd seized the opportunity for another dash towards home but was thrown out at the plate by Lewis. Corey Fisher, Andy Countryman, and Seaman would each score a run in the sixth, bringing the Indians to their game-winning score of 8-0. Peebles- 0 2 1 0 2 3 - 8 W.
