VAN WERT -- Spring sport's preview: Paulding Track Paulding Boys Track Last year: 6th in NWC. Head coach: Shawn Brewer. Lettermen lost: Troy Vance, Paul Webb, Kevin Mumma, Klint Svec. Returning lettermen: Tyler Arend, Eric Beck, Allen Kline, Jon Kohart, Andrew Mott, Brian Porter, Corbin Rhonehouse, Eric Ross, Jacob Roughton, Brady Schroeder, Zak Shafer, Dalton Stallkamp, Remy Tope, Bryant Troyer. Promising newcomers: "We have so many fresh faces that are coming out this season so we are excited about all of them." Strengths: "Our strength for this year will be in our overall team. We will put quality athletes in every event that will have a good chance to score points. We have really good numbers in the program and will be able to mix people around to keep them fresh for each meet. Their experience will help them in the big meets and give them a good understanding in what they need to do to compete." Weaknesses: "We really shouldn't have a weakness this season. We may lack quality depth in a couple of events but that's about it." Overall outlook: The outlook for this team is the sky is the limit. If they will work hard throughout the season and get better we should be a very formidable opponent. Our relays should be very good to go along with our sprinters. We have some good individual field event people so how they do will really determine where we finish in our big meets. This year's team will need our distance runners to come around quickly. We have lots of returning runners but with the addition of our incoming runners, how fast we find their place will be the key to our season. I feel we will be hard to beat in duals and tri-meets but we are really looking forward to competing in the larger ones. "The league looks to be very tough again this season. Spencerville returns a lot of runners, Delphos Jefferson and Columbus Grove are strong and Bluffton will reload. There are also several good individuals so whoever gels the best will do well. We expect to contend for the title and will do whatever we can to be ready for the conference meet." ************* Paulding Girls Track Last year: 6th in NWC, district runner-up. Head coach: Shawn Brewer. Lettermen lost: Tiffany Anderson, Kara Suffel, Tiffany Razo, Abby Gross. Returning lettermen: Eve Kohart, Stephanie Donaldson, Alicia Carnahan, Jaclyn Carr, Hayley Clellan. Promising newcomers: "We have several new girls this year so we think they are all promising." Strengths: "The biggest strength for us coming into this season will be individuals. We have a few runners that are back from regional qualifying last year so we are counting on them to help lead our team and make us competitive." Weaknesses: "We don't have a lot of experience coming back so our new girls will need to step up quickly in order for us to compete this year. We graduated a lot of quality runners, throwers and jumpers (Tiffany Razo 3rd at state in the high jump) from last yea and that lost experience will definitely hurt us." Overall outlook: "The outlook for our team will take shape slowly throughout the year. We have some good individuals that will need to carry us early in the year until we can find each girls place on the team. We have decent numbers this year but their lack of experience will be a problem until we find out who goes where. They have been working very hard in practice trying to get better and improve. "The league will be strong again this year with Columbus Grove's experience, Delphos Jefferson's quickness, Bluffton's individual speed and Spencerville's distance. We hope to improve each contest and do well at the Northwest Conference meet."
