VAN WERT -- Mark your calendars! New Year New You is back for 2009. This 12 week healthy lifestyles program developed by community partners is back and better than ever. The focus of the program is to bring together teams of 5-10 individuals with a common goal to live a healthier lifestyle. At the end of the program, the top teams and individuals will be recognized. Everyone who participates will benefit one way or another. An informative brochure and registration form is available at The Wellness Center, YMCA and YWCA. It can also be as easy as clicking on the New Year New You link at www.vanwerthospital.org. Instructions are included on the form. This program is not just about weight loss. It is about making healthy lifestyle choices. One way we are encouraging these positive changes is by incorporating a point system for participants to earn points for the team. Points are earned for exercise, smoking cessation, eating fruits and vegetables, drinking water and attending educational seminars. Each week, at least one team member must attend a 30 minute educational session on healthy topics and share the information with the rest of the team. Topics will vary on a weekly basis and cover issues such as goal setting, eating out, recipe modification, supplements and physical activity. The educational sessions will be held on Tuesdays, beginning January 20th. Each 30minute program will be offered at 12:00pm and 6:00pm. All programs will be held at the OSU Extension, Van Wert County Office, 1055 South Washington Street (inside the fair grounds in the main building). Weigh in dates and times are listed in the brochure and on the website. A Kickoff Event is scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Vantage Career Center. The event starts at 9:00am with a Health Walk. Visit the "What To Do Instead of Eating" displays in the commons and enjoy a motivational session from America's Fun Fitness Coach, Jim Steffen. Each participant is asked to give a $5.00 donation to help offset the expenses of the program. No one will be turned away based on their ability to pay. Donations should be turned in with registration form at one of the following locations: Wellness Center, YMCA and YWCA. Cash and checks accepted. Please make checks payable to the OSU Extension Office. Don't miss out on this Van Wert County program. Registration Deadline: January 5, 2009 Please turn in registrations forms to the Wellness Center, YMCA or YWCA.
