Parkway ACME baseball update

ROCKFORD - The Parkway Panthers' ACME baseball team ended this past week with a 2-1 record. Parkway opened the week with a double-header win over Fort Recovery by the scores of 15-8 and 12-0. Parkway then fell to visiting Lima Bath 10-2 the next night. In the first game of the DH, Fort Recovery jumped out to an early 2-0 lead by scoring twice in the top of the first inning. That would be the last lead of the evening for the Indians, as the home town Panthers proceeded to score in every inning of both games, winning the first game by a 15-8 score, and then run-ruling the Indians in the second game by a 12-0 count. In game one, Chad Shellabarger was the winning pitcher, giving up eight runs (five earned) in his four innings of work. Taylor Bates relieved Shellabarger in the fifth inning and held the Indians scoreless over the last three innings. Bates gave up two hits while walking one and striking out two. The Panthers were led in hitting by Jake Jackson (4-for-5, with three doubles and three RBI), Levon Archer (3-for-4, with a double, a grand slam home run, five RBI, three runs scored), with Taylor Bates, Joe Dellinger and Chad Shellabarger all contributing two hits apiece. Grant Gray and Grant Ripley also had a hit. In the second game, Zach Bates went the distance, allowing the Indians one harmless single in his five-inning victory. Bates struck out nine while walking only two in his 75-pitch performance. Parkway was led in hitting by Taylor Bates (3-for-3 and a double), Joe Dellinger (3-for-3, with a double), Levon Archer (2-for-3, with a double, home run, and four RBI) and Jared Bourelle (2-for-4). Jake Jackson and Zach Bates also had hits. Parkway raised its record to 8-10 with the double-header sweep. The Lima Bath Wildcats paid a visit to Don Black field on Tuesday evening to battle the Parkway Panthers in a non-league game. Parkway held a 2-1 lead after two innings, but the bats went silent the rest of the evening as Bath took home a 10-2 victory. Drew Luginbill started and went five innings, with Jake Jackson coming in to pitch the final two frames. Luginbill struck out five while walking only two, and Jackson gave up two hits in his two innings on the mound. Taylor Bates led Parkway at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double. Also getting hits for the Panthers were Levon Archer, Drew Luginbill, Jake Jackson, Chad Shellabarger (double), Cole Hamrick and Grant Ripley. Parkway's record falls to 8-11 with the setback.
