On a rainy Thursday, May 8, the Greeneview girls and Hillsboro boys track teams won their respective titles in the 2008 Miami Trace Invitational. Greeneview edged Jonathan Alder, 134 points to 132 points. Miami Trace was third with 116.5 points, followed by Hillsboro with 115.5 points.
         Washington was fifth with 106.5 points, Waverly was sixth with 23 points, Westfall seventh with 19.5 and McClain eighth with 12 points. For the boys, Hillsboro tallied 124 points to 105 for second place Waverly. Miami Trace was third with 99 points, followed by Jonathan Alder with 91 points. Washington was fifth with 83.5 points, Greeneview scored 74 points, Westfall had 62.5 points and McClain scored 19 points. In girls results, Washington recorded four first place finishes. Nicole Fore won the shot put with a distance of 35’ 6”. Brittany Thomas captured the high jump, clearing 5’ 0”. The 4 x 100-meter relay team of Alyssa Daugherty, Courtney Merritt, Taylor Alsop and Brittany Thomas won that event in 53.49. Washington also won the 4 x 200-meter relay. That team was comprised of Catie Shears, Alsop, Daugherty and Merritt. Their winning time: 1:54.89. For Miami Trace there were three first places recorded Thursday. The 4 x 400-meter relay team of Tawny Copas, Sydney Wilson, Sarah Andrews and Sommer Eddlemon won in 4:23.19. Sammantha Stroker won the 3200-meter run in a time of 12:49.43. Stroker also won the 1600-meter run in a time of 5:45.16. (Editor’s note: girls results in the 100-meter dash, the 100-meter hurdles and 4 x 800-meter relay were not available Thursday night.) For the boys, Miami Trace recorded four first place results. Ryan Garland won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 43.01. Ethan Snyder won the 800-meter run in 2:09.29. Justin Phillips won the high jump, clearing 5’ 8”. Chris Wehner took first place in the shot put with a best throw of 50’ 7”. For the Blue Lions, Alex Wilson recorded the only first place result, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 16.20.
