Miami Trace tennis shuts out East Clinton PDF Print E-mail

LEES CREEK — Miami Trace tennis bounced back from a loss at London on Tuesday afternoon as they traveled to East Clinton High School and won a non-league match with the Astros, five courts to zero.

Miami Trace dominated the match without losing a single game through all three singles courts and the first doubles court.

Sydney Wilson won at first singles, 6-0, 6-0 over Amber Boris.

Jenna Cobb won 6-0, 6-0 at second singles against Tara McKenzie.

Third singles went to Heidi Reiterman, 6-0, 6-0 over Emily Nunn.

At first doubles, Angel Balahtsis and Haley Hagler defeated Brittany Carpenter and Ashley Evans, 6-0, 6-0.

Second doubles saw Miami Trace’s Kayla Fitzpatricka and Lauren Wilt leading 3-1 in the third set when the team of Murphy Bean and Brandie Thompson retired. The scores of the match were, 0-6, 7-5, 3-1, retired.

Miami Trace is now 3-1 overall.

In reserve play (eight-game pro sets) for Miami Trace, Tabby Weidman defeated Brooke Vandevort, 8-1; Athena Knisley of East Clinton beat Katlin Chance of Miami Trace, 8-6.

In reserve doubles, Emily Butler and Katie Garringer of Miami Trace beat Jamie Copeland and Karissa Young, 8-6 and Sarah Peterson and Hannah Garringer of the Panthers defeated Amanda McKibben and Blair Baker, 8-6.

“The girls really played well tonight and corrected a lot of errors that we saw on the courts last night,” Miami Trace coach Lee Anne Layman said. “We played with a lot more confidence and took care of points.

“I was really pleased with our reserve players tonight,” Layman said. “They showed a lot of focus and won points by taking care of basics.

“Emily and Katie really covered the court well,” Layman said. “Sarah and Hannah kept the ball in play and made smart shots against a really nice reserve doubles pair. At reserve singles, I was really impressed with the movement that Tabby and Katlin sustained throughout their points.”

Miami Trace is in SCOL action today at Hillsboro at 4:30 p.m.
