The Miami Trace junior-varsity softball team improved to 3-0 on the season, and 2-0 in the SCOL, with an 11-10 win at home over Clinton-Massie Monday evening, April 7. Haley Hagler pitched four innings in relief to record her first high school win. She allowed three runs on one hit with nine walks and two strikeouts. Heidi Henderson started and worked three innings. She allowed seven runs on five hits with two strikeouts and seven walks.
“Tonight we did not play as well as the past two games,” Miami Trace coach Tom Tompkins said. “There were a lot of mental mistakes that really should have cost us the game. But we received a few breaks of our own and were able to capitalize on them. “We are playing well on the defensive side of the ball and that was a key to the win tonight,” Tompkins said. “However, we are struggling at the plate as far as hitting quality pitches.” For Miami Trace, Megan Moore was 2 for 4 with two runs scored; Samantha Cruz was 2 for 4 and Amanda Binegar and Hagler each had hits. Tompkins also mentioned the effort from pinch runners McKinsey Southward and Kali Marcum.
