The Miami Trace girls varsity soccer team picked up its first win of the season Tuesday, 5-2 over the McClain Lady Tigers. The Lady Panthers led the match 3-1 at the half. Miami Trace scored the first goal at the 21:12 mark and the Tigers came back to score with 16:42 remaining in the half.
With the score 1-1, the Panthers put another goal in the net at the 11:20 mark and tallied a third goal at 10:39. Bridgette Bowers scored two of the goals for Miami Trace and Julie McKay scored one. Assists went to Moriah Williams (one) and McKay (one). In the second half, the Panthers played the ball in the net at the 21:10 mark with another score at 17:46. Both goals were by Julie McKay. The Tigers refused to quit and found the net on a corner kick at the 10:30 mark to end the scoring on the night. Brittany Griffith played the entire game in the goal for the Panthers with a total of 13 saves from 17 McClain shots on goal. Miami Trace tallied 28 shots on goal for the contest. “Bridgette and Julie did have big scoring nights for us,” Miami Trace head coach Kim Pittser said. “But it takes an entire unit to work the ball to attack mode. The girls played with much effort tonight and some of the “little” things (techniques) were clicking. “We have more to emphasize and practice, but we should all feel good with desire that they possess to progress and never give up,” Pittser said.
