PORTSMOUTH — The Miami Trace Panther freshman football team traveled to the banks of the Ohio River to take on the Senators of Portsmouth West and came up on the short end 20-12 in a hard-fought battle Thursday, Oct. 2.

The first half saw only Portsmouth West scoring on a two-yard run to make the score 6-0.

In the second half, the Senators scored quickly after the break on a 35-yard run to extend the lead to 14-0 (pat was good).

With some nice passing by Laike Wallace to Dustin McFadden and Drake Bennett on a nice drive it set up their first score on the evening at the 8:56 mark of the fourth as Trevor Kirkpatrick took it in from a yard out (pat no good) to bring the Panthers closer, 14-6.

However, Portsmouth West responded with a 24-yard touchdown passing strike to make the score 20-6.

The Panthers were not done.

After a sack of the quarterback by Logan Noble, and a nice defensive play by Tyler Havens and Edward Kunka to name a few, the Panthers got possession of the ball with 1:28 left.

Wallace hit Dusty Wilson on a short touchdown pass (pat no good) to end the scoring at 20-12.

The Panthers’ next game will be Thursday at Greenfield at 5 p.m.

But the Panthers foun away to turn it around with some nice passing from wallace to Mcfadden Bennet and Wilson to march down the feild and put points on the board on a kirkpatrick 1 yard run and a 3 yard touchdown by Wilson to end the scoring for the panthers at 12.
