HILLSBORO — The Miami Trace cross country teams competed at the Hillsboro Invitational on August 30. All of the runners did well at this race, according to coach Andrea Johnson. “It’s a good course, and many of them ran their best time of the season.”
In the high school girls race, Sammantha Stroker eclipsed the 20-minute mark for the first time in her career. Stroker was sixth out of 127 runners in 19:53. “I’m very proud that Samm was able to drop under 20 minutes for the first time,” Johnson said. “She’s an extremely dedicated runner, and her times are showing that.” Amy Frost placed 105th for Miami Trace in 28:06. In the high school boys race, Miami Trace had enough runners to tally a team total. The Panthers placed 11th out of 12 teams in the big school division. Hillsboro placed third in their own meet. Rob King placed 24th out of 93 runners in a time of 18:27. “Rob’s times keep improving,” Johnson said. “With all of his hard work, this trend should continue as the season progresses.” Jacob Garringer was 52nd in 20:22; Jacob Kunka placed 57th in 20:40; Benson Melvin was 76th in 22:10; Clay Raines was 80th in 23:25; Seth Coil placed 82nd in 23:34 and Robbie Davis was 86th in a time of 23:47. In the high school boys junior varsity race (featuring 92 runners), Codey Neff placed 13th in 19:44. “This was Codey’s first race of the season, so it’s encouraging that he ended up with the season best time for the team,” Johnson said.
