By CHRIS HOPPES Brown News Service EBER — The Miami Trace Lady Panthers took another step toward defense of their six South Central Ohio League titles with a 66-32 win Tuesday night over visiting league rival Clinton-Massie.
Miami Trace is now 9-0 in the league, 14-0 overall. The Lady Panthers and McClain Lady Tigers (7-1 in the SCOL) will meet for the first time this season Thursday night at McClain High School. Clinton-Massie (3-4 SCOL, 8-7 overall) hosts Washington in an SCOL game Friday night. On Tuesday, senior Jenna Cobb and junior Ashley Lawson shared team scoring honors with 14 points each. Senior Andrea Strahler added nine points. Cobb led Miami Trace with eight rebounds. Lawson led the team in steals with four. For the Falcons, Jordanne Gambill led with 15 points. She also had 10 rebounds. Sargent was in double figures with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Kelsey Ward led Massie with 12 rebounds. Mary Moyer had 3 assists and Brianna Machado handed out two assists. “They are a very good team,” Clinton-Massie head coach Allen Wilkinson said of Miami Trace. “Coach (James) Stutzman does a great job with them. He does a super job getting the most out of the talent he has and he has a ton of talent. They are fundamentally sound.” Cobb, who will play Division I college basketball at Butler, is in the running for McDonald’s All-American status, according to Miami Trace athletic director Byran Sheets. “She’s a great player and an even better person,” Wilkinson said. “She such a classy kid. She plays hard all the time. She’s a coaches’ dream.” What about the remainder of the season for Clinton-Massie? “We’ve got to stay focused,” Wilkinson said. “We have to concentrate and we have to execute. That’s the bottom line. “We hustled the entire game tonight,” Wilkinson said. “We played hard. But, our execution and some of our decision making (hurt us). You can’t get trapped; you can’t cross-over dribble. Things we’ve done all year and we continue to do.” SUMMARY MT 18 12 26 10 — 66 CM 6 12 5 9 — 32 (66) MIAMI TRACE — Juliane McKay 1-0-2; Ashley Lawson 4 (2)-0-14; Kristin Landrum 0-0-0; Kasey Bryant 2-1-5; Taylor Smith 1-0-2; Josey Hull 4-0-8; Jordan Bonham 0-0-0; Kristin Sockman 1-0-2; Deidre McKay 2-0-4; Jenna Cobb 2 (2)-4-14; Heidi Reiterman 0-0-0; Andrea Strahler 4-1-9; Kristin Reisinger 3-0-6.
